Looking for a 51 Pontiac bumper for my Fleetline. My hero... Flt-Top Bob thinks he has one. What years will interchange? Here's a pic.
The pontiac bumper is wider than the chevy....you will either need to fill in the stock indentions for the bumper on the chevy quarters, or narrow the pontiac bumper slightly....Rocky had one on the back of his delivery, he can tell you how much he narrowed his...you weretalking about the rear, right? Hey, got a question. Where did you get your fleetline? I remember seeing one similiar on ebay years ago...and the auction mentioned more pics on jalopyjournal.com...I think that's how I discoverd the HAMB. Just wondering if it was the same one... Brian
According to my Hollander's '50-'52 Pontiac sedan bumpers are interchangeble, but only the '49-'52 Pontiac Wagon and Delivery bumpers are the same as Chevys. So I think either Kustm is on to something with the fab work or I severely misread the above posts. Sincerely, The other "LD"
No, the width of the poncho bumper is the same as the chevy. It's the side pieces that are too long for the chevy. The Chevy has indentations in the 1/4 panels for the bumper to sit against....so does the pontiac but the pontiac's go further up the 1/4 panels because the poncho bumper is longer on the sides. Not sure if the bumper mount holes are drilled in the same places on the face bar but I'd really be surprised if they were. I made my own bumper brackets to mount my modified pontiac bumper on the back of my 50 chevy.... The pontiac bumper follows the contour of the rear of the chevy so close, you don't need a gravel shield...Here's a photo of my pontiac bumper [with the sides sectioned about 3"] on my 50 delivery... looks like it belongs there to me.
Look at the bumper sides on the pontiac bumper in the first photo at the top of this post...loooong, eh? Now look at mine with 3" taken out and the halves welded back together. They fit into the little coves in the chevy 1/4 panels... Or, you could extend the chevy coves up further in the 1/4's and leave the bumper alone...what-EVER!
My bumper came offa the rustiest green and cream 52 catalina hardtop you ever saw! It was in primer because I stripped the rust and used about 46 gallons of high-build primer to fill all the rust craters! The little guard-thingee on the top of my bumper was the topmost part of a 49 accessory bar from a 49 chevy front bumper...offa my old 4 door parts car.....I just cut it down and welded it on....smoothed it out a bit and slung some more primer on it.
Here's pic of one off my buddy's 51 Pontiac. The sides are too long and I'll have to shorten them up. I'm also looking for two 55-56 Pontiac rear bumper centers. I want to use them as license plate guards. Any body got any of this stuff?
