Can an OEM flatehead V8 stock radiator be reworked to accomodate a SBF 347 motor and work efficiently? Since my stock one has the br*** top on it, I would like to have it modified to work on a SBF w/415hp. Is this possible, or would it be better to have one made, or buy one with more rows and the same dimensions of 19"wide X 26" tall? Any replies will be greatly apreciated.

I think the tank may be a weak link running a high pressure cap.

You should be able to get a fit through Jegs/Summit, etc, for about 100-125 with outlets in the right spot.

I would be astounded if you can find a suitable radiator for that kind of money. I very recently searched for a copper/br*** replacement for a friend's beautifully restored stock F-1. Found the best product at, and received excellent service from, U.S. Radiator in CA. It was a heavy duty 4 row core. Built and shipped exactly on schedule as promised.

But it cost about $500 shipped to the midwest. Both my friend and I were pleased with the results.

Check Walker Radiator,s web. I got one from them a few years ago for my 49 F1 with a 455 Olds, and it works fine.

-I wasn't referring to a direct fit type of radiator, he mentioned he's going to run a newer engine...and with plenty of room on the old Ford, should be able to get by with not much invested;)

PS...since the F1 came with a 6 and the V8...there's quite a bit of room to locate a radiator, if not needing to use the stock location.

I will 2nd the US Radiator recommendation. I run a 4 core US Radiator unit in my '51 with a healthy 351W. It was some of the best money I spent on the truck. There is nothing worse then fighting overheating issues in a cl***ic car, so don't cheap out on a chinese aluminum piece.

To answer the OP's question, a good rad shop should be able to block off one of the ports on both tanks, however as stated above, you will probably be limited to a 4 or 8 psi cap.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I had read a little bit about the stock radiators, and it would definately be a weak link. Also, the cheapest replacement I've found so far that will work with a SBF 408 is around $600.00. I'm going to keep looking as I have a little time before North Texas Customs finishes the build. I can hardly wait to get in this old truck and drive her with the late model drive train. Thanks again to everyone who responded to my post...
