Any ideas on how I might be able buy an old truck(less than $5k) in Santa Cruz and get it to NH? Ideas and costs? Would like to buy western body..
I bought a '56 Ford pickup for $2,200. and drove it home from LA. It was back in 1975, best road trip I've ever had. Bob
Did someone look at it for you? Is it in Santa Cruz or in the hills like Boulder Creek? Interestingly I'm in Santa Cruz county and just bought some hubcaps from New Hampshire. Aren't there some Alliance people on here that are auto haulers?
check the HAMB relay social group, search for transporters here, check the HAMB-O-DEX then google it. in my experience you're looking at $.50 - $1.00 per mile.
#2 diesel is at a nationwide average of $4.00 and higher Has been that much for about (3) months There is a waiting list of cars to be hauled from the West to the East Winter is here My advice would be to look closer to home Jim
$1075 got my F100 Hauled from Sacto to Detroit. I did the whole internet shipping thing....minutes after you put your infomation in your phone will be ringing....They'll tell you they are in the drivieway waiting to get your truck ha-ha...be prepared to play games...be prepeared to be told every company calling you is going to screw you around, but not us ,,,,, so pick me.....wait for drivers....be lied to....be apoligized to...then start the process again....provided you aren't in a rush, it's the cheapest way to get your vehicle, just get ready for some phone combat. I have bought and sold, and then shipped cars. Last car I sold I waited around my house for 2 days, went to work on the 3rd day, the driver calls me and says he's at the end of my street!!!!! I said get comfortable, I'm at work and you got a 2 hour wait. It does ****, but if ya go the cheap route this is what you will deal with. On a side note I don't know how these drivers do it. The profit must be rather small. Fuel isn't cheap and unless you got a full load, and a relativiely straight run, there can't be that much money in it.
I used Horseless Carrige. for a move from LA to NJ. it was $1150 a couple of years ago. No h***les at all. trulyvintage is in the business. His advice is from a pro.
Just to see the Horseless Carriage trucks is worth a few bucks. Great looking fleet, that haul some really nice cars. Bob
Check out Hemming's Motor News-there are a large number of car hauling firms advertising there. Then, ask for specifics and references.
Talked to a buddys dad a few minutes ago about a Riv he just picked up in Colorado. He had Reliable ship it for 1150 and got it in 4 days to Detroit!!!! This was in an enclosed trailer!!! thats a killer price. Give them a try!!
Someone mentioned buying local..... I have been looking but the barn finds are not calling me yet? Others just have to much of that brown stuff. Anyone planning on a run in the near future from Ca to the northeast?
i just bought a model a in minnesota and had it shipped to pa,, the best thing to do is call a shipping broker, call this guy: Rick Whalen Matson Logistics Services LLC (330) 759-0664 Office (330) 759-1665 Fax rwhalen@dina-lind.com he set mine up and i had it in two days, it was cheap too... rick does alot of shipments for me
Hmm, good, cheap, fast. Generally, you only get 2 out of 3. Worth checking maybe-insurance, references, etc.
id recommend rick to anyone. he is super fast and reliable, and the guys he sets up are reall guys, no some ****** that cant read a road sign.. i was very happy!
Starts easily, runs, drives and stops has a bearing on the price and if a company will or won't haul it for you. A guy bought a totaled ElCamino off me on Ebay and then couldn't get it shipped because it didn't run or drive and had to be moved around with a wrecker and I ended up stripping all the pieces he wanted off it and sending them to him and s****ping the body. Where in California has something to do with it too as it is one long state north to south and a truck going to the Bay area would be several hundred miles from LA or San Diego.
