I'm considering putting a beam axle under the front of my 1964 Fairlane. My first thought is an early Econoline axle or maybe a Dodge A100 unit, so I need spring anchor pin to pin. Probably need wheel mounting surface to WMS also. Any heads up would be great as finding one to measure is proving difficult.

    Thanks...Don

I don't recall what the measurement is but I can tell you this - In about 1974 - 75 I ***isted in putting an Econoline axle in a '65 Mustang Notch-back and the width and spring locations were very compatible....

I'm going for this stance but not with the offset wheel base.

So did you narrow the axle? Those are forged or cast steel so they weld good and strong. Any pix of the build?

This car better represents what I'm after. The red one is mine and the white one is exactly what I'm after.

I took 4 1/4" out of mine under my 67 Falcon, works great. Pictures are over on the Y blocks forever site, look under the racing section.

The Econoline axle track width is too wide for the 64 Fairlane without modifing. I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but the econoline axle measurments from center to center of the spring perches in about 5.5 inches wider than the center to center measurements of the Fairlane frame rails.

    here's my 64

Thanks for the info and pic. Did you use a Speedway axle or is this something that is cut down?

Any chance of getting a 45deg. shot of the front of your car. It looks like the wheels are set into the wells kinda deep, any trouble with the tires hitting the frame before lock? Thanks in advance as you are becoming my mentor on the swap.

    many more pics here http://members.shaw.ca/blueoval/64fairlane.htm

the current "track width" of the straight axle set up is exactly the same track width as the original 64 stock front end. This was one of the reasons I wanted to shorten the econoline axle. The other reason was to have the leaf springs mounted directly under the frame rails.

Things to keep in mind when determing the track width of your front axle... use of drum or disc brakes, width and offset of rims being used.

As for tires rubbing, none during mock-up (with engine installed). Final ***embly of car is in progress now. I'll find out if there are issues this Spring when car is ready to drive :)

My knowledge of Ford engines is weak but it looks like a windsor.
Who's headers are those??? A casual search has only shown up Bronco fenderwell for a 302.
