I have NEVER had to pull an oil pan on any vehicle i've owned...... I am having an issue with my crossmember and oil pan clearance. I can get it mounted fine but I won't have enough clearance to actually pull the oil pan without raising the motor from the truck. If I mount the motor high enough to allow quick removal o the pan a large portin of the motor is gonna be way above the frame rails and put the trans farther up into my cab. Just curious what your opinions are.
it doesn't seem to unreasonable to jack your motor u a little to access your oil pan. there's plenty of modern cars that work that way. i think its more important to get the motor in the right spot. keep in mind you'll need room at the firewall/trans area.
When was the last time anyone removed their pan in the car, the days of filing rods or mines or removing shims is long gone. If what ever is in need of attention in there is that bad you should be taking the motor out.
Like terryble said - set it down as low as you can to lower the CoG and provide clearance at the firewall. Cheers
got a 64' riviera with a 425 factory big block..must pull the engine to change my pan gasket...lol..looks more like they built the frame around the engine !!!
You'd be surprised how often you have the oil pan off on older cars.... I've done at least 5 in the last year. drain bolts get stripped.... People drop their car on the jack.... ....Every old car I've done in the last year I had to jack up the engine. 1969 Chevy c-10, 1964 t bird, 1968 LTD, 1963 mercury monteclaire....
Having to raise the engine up to remove the oil pan is a way of life. Having to pull the engine to remove the pan is pure hell. Big difference if its just a hobby for you and having to do it for a living.
