I'm looking for a Universal Neutral Safety Switch for a floor shift conversion to fit on a GM 700R-4. I found one in at a company in California. It's pricey, but it will do the job. The real problem is they want $25 to ship it. That's too much. Anyone find a more reasonable solution for an external neutral safety switch with back up light contact.

    Here it is:

Ron Frances has one for $81.
BUt you could make one. Get the column switch for the trans you have. Make a bracket to bolt to your pan and hold the switch. Put an arm on to operate the switch.
Make an arm to go on the lever out of the trans. Hook the two arms together with a rod.
It is not that high tech.

Thanks Ron, but that's what I already have ... the switch in the steering column and there is a linkage that goes from the floor shift to the column, but the column is so tight that I had to disconnect the linkage. I am going to abandon that old "original" linkage system. Thanks for the input.

What if!!!! What if you were to attach a second shift cable off the shifter attached to a bracket that had a stock column neutral safety switch mounted to it up under the dash. Of course you would have to work out the geometry to get detents right. Just throwing out an idea.

NSS (neutral safety switch and back up lights)- This is a big one, lots of questions here. Your neutral safety switch has (2) purple wires ( One is purple with a white stripe). The reverse light system has a light pink wire, and a light green wire. The pink wire doesnt show up in the car manual until 1977.
When you switch to a floor shifter, you will detach the wires from your neutral safety[IMG] switch/reverse backup light switch, which is located on top the steering column, under the dash and is shaped sort of like a horseshoe. You run one of the purple wires to the NSS on your new shifter, and the other purple wire to the other contact on the neutral safety switch on your new shifter.
You will do the same with the Reverse back up light solenoid on. Take the light green wire and disconnect it from the old NSS/B/U light,.. and connect it to the new B/U light solenoid/switch on one end. Take the pink wire, disconnect it, and plug it into the other side of the backup light switch/solenoid on the new shifter. Polarity doesnt matter..

  12. The raven found on at O'reilly's in Joplin for about 7 bucks when he was at the races and they said he had to have one. It can also be done with a Micro Switch that is triped when the ****** is in neutral, can be bought at any electrical supply or a company like Graingers (they have graingers all over hell).

I know that they are required at some race tracks but even when I have a car with one I make sure that it is either in neutral or park before I hit the starter. A switch is no cure for ignorance.

What shifter do you have? If it is an aftermarket like hurst, b&m etc they sell the switch kits.
