Been there, here's a photo of how I delt with it. Could have built just a crossmember to mount on but then what about pedals? And so the project grew. Just a bit more involved than it looks but aren't all projects? My first direction was to build side mounts at the block/trans mount point. I vetoed that after a little jacking around. The Wizzard
If I remember correctly the speed shops used to carry a rear trans mount that looked like a piece of 2 inch pipe with a bend in the center with mounting plates welded on to accept a late '30's to '40's rear trans mount (I am not sure of the exact year of the trans mount). Charlie Stephens
Jim Gordon at Specialty Ford Parts in Rosemead sells a trans mount for a '39 box in a Model A frame. It's a simple piece of flat stock with a dip in the middle, and has mounts that bolt into the two ears on the back of the '39 box. It has worked well behind my 8BA for years. His number is (626) 288-2121.
I've used the F1 cross member as already mentioned above. Easy to find and easy to fit pedals to. That frame pictured is fabbed from 2x4x .125 tubing. I see this is your first post. Tell us a little about yourself here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18
I stole these all from the hamb for reference when I was building my roadster. Just use the F1 pedals and make life easy.
Thanks to all. Last winter I put the trans in a Model A Speedster that I tour and FAST hillclimb with. Its just hanging back there like the A trans, but after a year of driving I want to put in some support. And hey, its winter and winter is the time to dick around with the car. All those "improvements" that have to be made to get that extra .1 sec. I wonder if anyone has ever made a graph of money vs ET? Not sure I want to see it, and definitely not show it to the person who runs things around here. Thanks again everyone.
