Ok, I've been looking for a while through the search function. Does anyone have pics of a Stewart Warner gauge taken apart they can post or email me. I bought some gauges for my '54 Ford panel that were new gauges with an original face of an unknown maker (bought from a repo place). They had problems with the first batch of gauges and I got another one (took a month) and it's still off. I have a gauge tester and I've been messing with both, so now I think the sending unit is slightly off. I would like to use the guts from a Stewart Warner gauge in the repo gauge face with a Stewart Warner sending unit so there will be no problems or having to wait if something does go wrong....also for piece of mind as to accuracy.
From what I've read you might not be happy with the modern SW gauges either. Their reputation for their new gauges has slipped.
I'm thinking of using an old gauge and a nos sending unit if they will fit. I was just wondering if anyone else that has done this maybe has some pics.
I think youre on the right track... Just mame sure your fuel guage sending unit is matched to the guage youb are utilizing.... I think oil pressure and water temp sendes would be just the ones for the motor you are are using...
The other gauges seem to work fine and are accurate, it's just the fuel gauge I'm having issues with. 1st gauge didn't read at all, 2nd gauge doesn't seem to be accurate (this time it's the sender I think). I have the 1st gauge (they didn't want it back), I took it apart and was thinking of just using the guts from a S/W. Here's my cluster now. Lower panel just in case.
Modern S W guages are ***embled in Mexico and in my opinion are junk. Cuistomer service in not in their vocabulary. Just my experience
Bringing back a old post. I found a S/W fuel gauge cheap and took it apart, it's not the same. So I found 1 person in the Hamb-O-Dex that rebuild gauges anyone else know of a place to build a new one.
