    Too much starch.
For as many who say it's a V-8 in a Model A ch***is....there are as many who say it's a V-8 ch***is with a Model A body (roadster) on top.

 WOW! This is one long *** thread with no general consensus!:D That being said, and me being an old geezer... traditionally, I have always believed and was taught in the 50's, that an AV8 was a flatty8 fitted into Model A frame rails. Thats my story and I'm stickin' with it;) ...robber

A bone stock A. (banger equipped)

  6. I am not sure but according to the song it is connected to the B-bone. :D

So all this brings up a totally different question but mildly related question. If an AV8 is a model A with a flathead v8 in it then would a model A with a 4 cylinder in it be called an A-banger? :D:D

...the thing about it is,,,(and this is directed it no post in particular)...is that no matter how many votes, how many stories or how many opinions....history is what it is,,,,,an AV8 is a model A roadster on stock rails with a flatty,,,a chevy big block is a rat motor,,,a 32 ford is a deuce,,,,a shoebox is a 49-51 ford,,,,thats it,,,,the way its been for the past 40-60 years...,,please, do not try and change history to suit yourself,,,build what you want, but please have some respect,,,if you dont know,,then do your history.,...

...and I'm saying, with all due respect, "back it up". Who was/were the first to coin the term and how **** were they about it?

I've been around many old timer hot rodders for years, and honestly, the term does not typically come up. The only place I've ever really seen it, is in magazines and online. In magazines I've seen it mostly referenced to V-8 ch***is' with A roadster bodies. It's not a matter of being disrespectful to history when it is unclear to begin with.

Your definition in my opinion is correct!

  13. Jeem,
The pics I posted in post #33 are taken from an article from Hot Rod magazine in 1954. The ch***is under that roadster is actually a highly modified A ch***is. I don't know that Hot Rod magazine can be considered the world's reknowned authority on all things traditional but this one was or is recognized as an AV8.

I do recall the Ol' Man calling cars AV8s but not until I was grown. He would have started building by about the mid to later '30s. So if it is '30s history that we are after I can ***ume that he was there. That said I don't recall him calling old hoopties anything but jalopies or hot rods when I was little. Like I said I was grown before I heard the term used that I recall.

Like you I don't know that hot rodders ever called them AV8s when they first began to gain popularity in the '30s.
