AN adaptor to 5/16 hose barb?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by XxStrait-EdgexX, Nov 19, 2012.

  1. I'm looking to go from my fuel cell that has a 8AN male threaded fitting welded to it to a 5/16 hose barb fitting. I have it all set up and hunky dory right with a adaptor and such now but as soon as I put my homemade lowering blocks on the fuel line adaptors that are close to six inches long will interfere with the rear end. Any body know of a short way to do this? A 8 AN femal to 5/16 90 degree barb fitting would be ideal but I can't find such an animal.

  2. Take an AN8 "hard cap", drill and tap it for 1/4" pipe thread, screw in a 1/4 to 5/16 barb fitting. Done.

  3. Damn good idea... But since these are aluminum fittings it'll be difficult to tell how thick the head would be to tap it... Jegs and summit list a flare cap, is that it??

XRP has a -8 swivel 90* (pn 900508) that will change direction of your tank fitting and allow you to use your adapter.

Just out of curiosity why the 5/16 Fuel line? I'd think most guys would run at least 3/8" line if they were putting in a fuel cell unless they had a real small engine.

As the guys suggested above, there should be several ways to accomplish what you want to do but you will most likely end up having to buy some fittings to do it.

kinda wondering that myself, why 5/16? that is pretty puny.but they are all right. you can make your own.or buy a swivel.

  7. The 5/16's line works perfectly fine for my completely stock 360 Chrysler with a 600 cfm carb... Doesn't starve or anything. Only running a cell because the stock tank was completely rusted through.

Russell makes twist-lock fittings, which seem to be what you are looking for. But they don't show what size the barb on them are?

  9. I noticed that as well. I just got back from the parts store. I ordered one of the 90 degree fittings that was posted above that has the female on one end and the male on the other so I can use the adaptors I already have. It'll work but it might look a little crazy under there! Lol thanks fellas.

Check out thompkins or maybe mcmaster. I got mine from thompkins, but I'm local.

  14. I'd use the 2 pc hydraulic fitting style myself.
