Trying to get a better sound out of my 31 model a 4 banger. Will converting to a modern hot rod style muffler gain me any better performance as well as a better sound? Thanks for your input.
Not sure what you mean by a modern hot rod muffler. Like a flowmaster or a turbo muffler? I think a set of short gl*** or steelpack mufflers will get you the best sound for your car.
Thanks for your comments. After a bit of research this morning it looks like a Smithy muffler might provide me the sound and performance over the original Model A stock muffler.
Ghetto Homemade header/intake. I got the 2.5" drive side tailpipe from my wrecked chevelle, NO Muffler. It sounds great. Sounds like "The Red Baron". Everyone likes it & its not loud at all.
It dumps out near the rearend, driver side of the banjo. (You could kind of see it in the black&white picture)
I used a Red's Header 4 into 2 header and used a pair of Smithy's mufflers on dual exhaust out the back. This is about my 4th version of exhaust on this car, and I am finally happy with the sound/performance. My buddy Joe (ARodder here on the HAMB) used on of the Gear Drive lake style headers. He seems quite pleased with it. It does sound pretty good. It looks like Leaburg is near Eugene. Joe is in Springfield and I am down in Roseburg. I'm sure that we could arrange for you to check both cars out in person if you wanted to. -Mitch
