Hi, I am trying to mount a full length steel glovebox in a 1932 Ford 3W Coupe. It had a short cardboard glovebox that was unsupported in the rear. What supports the rear of the full size oem style glovebox? How does it attach to the firewall/cowl? I have a mounting tab (photo attached) on the cowl lip, but it looks like I am missing some sort of support bar from the tab to the glovebox. What does this piece look like? Anyone have some photos? Thanks.

There is a similar looking sheetmetal tab sticking up from the rear of the steel glovebox so the two tabs can be bolted together. A picture of mine won't be much help as I have butchered my glovebox to make room for a Southwind Heater (converted to hot water rather than gas).

Okay, I had someone send me a picture. Just as people have been saying... there is a matching tab on the box that mates to the cowl tab. I am using a repro Brookville steel glove box that did not have this tab, but should be easy to add. Thanks everyone.

The tab ... goes at the bottom of the glove box. :D :D
The mounting point on your firewall and in your photo has nothing to do with the glovebox.

Randy, can you provide a little more detail? What is the mounting tab on the firewall for (it is right above the glovebox)? I know your 3W was a good unmolested example and any pictures would be helpful to see what you mean. Thanks.

While I did photo most of the build and the 32 coupe ... I did not photo the firewall and the glovebox tab.

Just get the glovebox in the coupe ... and fab a support bracket.
No one can see if it is correct or not :)

Thanks Randy... Just finished it today, all I did was tack welded a similar bracket like in the picture and bolted it up. Everything looks good and solid. Now I have a good place to put the registration and insurance card ;-)

Yes indeed, it nice to have a glovebox in a 32 3W ... I had to go to a good bit of extra work in order to keep the metal original glove box in my coupe. With the Vintage Air Mini II, the extra hoses and the wiring panel all under the dash ... there is no extra room at all.

But IMHO, it is well worth the effort. It is little things like this that separate the steel 32 3W's from the gl*** copies ... which do not have a glove box, most have no cowl vent and they have electric windows.

With my first 3W back in the early 90s, I did the same thing with a vintage air unit, though I added a extra panel below the dash for extra controls and hide the AC unit. That dash had the center oval hacked out so I installed a smooth panel for the gauges. I also did the side vents very similar to what you did.

My current 3W doesn't have AC (or even heat) yet, but I am going to keep the glove box and even try to keep a partially working vent by relocating the handle, plate and spring towards the glovebox side....At least I'll try that first. I will also most likely add another panel below the dash to help hide everything. It will be tight between the AC unit, vent hoses, glovebox, fuseblock, Fuel Injection PCM and a vent handle ;-)
