Hey guys, thought I'd start working on my 241 today, working on removing the bell housing so I can get it up on the stand. Is there an internal bolt I'm missing? Do I need to remove the flywheel to get to this bolt OR is it just that stuff that I should do some more tapping and prying?
P.I.T.A Im thinking of leavin it out. you gota remove flywheel to get to it. would **** on clutch replacment
Those flywheel bolts are a PIA 'specially if the motor won't turn . There are a pair of bolts that thread into the block from inside the bell. Seems that the crank can be threaded to use a later hemi eight bolt design , in either an automatic flexplate or stick flywheel. Good luck with your Ram !!
You HAVE to use a guide if you rethread the crank. You are really screwed if they are not perfectly true.
Had one that was siezed. I had a ***** of a time getting it apart as there was no way it would come free. In the end I took a large hammer to the bell housing and broke it apart to get those internal bolts out. Then removing the flywheel was also easier. After that I pounded the pistons out of the block and broke several of them in pieces in the process. Was worth all the sweat however the block cleaned and machined nicely.
Wow, that sounds bad - this one ran 15 years ago, was all still together, even the air cleaner, still I'm the truck, good antifreeze full of oil so hopefully she's not stuck that bad
Most of the time the rings rust to the cyl wall, but I did buy one with a siezed cam. Try ATf in the cyls soaking for a week or 2 if you havent.
If the engine still has the pan on it probably wouldn't hurt to pull the dizzy & int shaft & run oil through the engine so everything else is lubed.
You should get off easier then, mine had been lying outside for quite a few years, but I was able to save it.
