I've ordered up some 33 sides with curved louvers for my 29. The car will be black and I'm planning on polishing the sides. Nuts?

Yea, but do you have any say in the house?

I'm liking the build, but it just seems to me like the louvers are angled wrong for the car. Just looks a bit out of place.

I kinda think what you are seeing is the straight line where the hood meets the cowl. I'm thinking I may change that line to match the louvers and cowl bead?

29 Ford with 33 polished aluminum hood sides. Question: Do I paint the hood sides or polish the aluminum hood sides? The car will be black with polished American Wheels. My gut is to polish the sides or just polish the louvers in the sides of the hood.

Looks good. Swoopy. I saw the same treatment on a '29 years ago...once. I think they were original sides...even had the curve at the bottom and the inner fender Looked darned good, and I think yours will too. We have often seen a polished aluminum hood top with no sides. If the top of the hood is gonna be black, I'd paint the sides too. But don't listen to me...finish it how you like it.

I like the idea of changing the line where the hood meets the cow. Don't polish the sides, that will take away from the lines of the car.

I vote for painted sides. Let the louvers be a semi-hidden touch that just adds to the whole effect. Sometimes an unusual addition just slaps you in the face and tends to look out of place instead of just adding to the overall design.

  22. Paint (and maybe pinstripe) the louvers. No polish. That would be overdoing it.

yeah id paint them, they work well with the fenders and the photo of the red one pushes the point even further. i think all of the other ideas make the little hicups in the flow i.e. the cowl line jump out instead of getting pushed back.

    should be cool :)
