I know I have to notch my car, but not into a huge mini truck style notch. Anyone used this kit? Looks nice, just looking for installed pics, and trunk treatments.

Just curious why so many are using the Gambino kit and not this one as well. What are the major differences, pros and cons of the 2 different style notches.

The Gambino notch can be set lower/higher, if you need it (you cut it to fit the height YOU want it). It is also flat on the top, allowing a flat notch cover, which is handy, if you need the space/flat area for mounting an air ride setup, hydros, speakers, etc.

This one is what it is. Not sure where you'd find bed wood on a '39-'54 car.

Yeah, kind of what I thought, and that coming from the people who make and sell them.

I used a larger Gambino style notch and hadnt seen this style kit before I started. Im happy with the way everything came out on my car but will definately try the smaller notch in the future. I think there is a R&C article about this exact Jimenez bros notch. Depending on what you are doing, i may save you a lot of floor and trunk fab.

He was thinking 39-54 chevy pickup! Hence the posted photos.

Either one would work just fine for your car.

Well, on Ebay the Gambino notch is $139 and $50 to ship it. What is the advantage to just cutting out of metal yourself. I can get free 1/4" plate s****s all day long, Just what is the advantage as opposed to spending the $180 for a prefabbed notch.

I'm going to make my own notch as well (51 chevy coupe) I haven't decided which one I'll copy, probably the gambino notch, it's just a simpler notch. But you might give Gambino a call he's very helpful, and I think if you're an alliance member you get a discount. Seems like the not is only $90 if you call him direct. don't hold me to that though!!!

I will call him, $90 is worth it, twice that isn't. And like you say, even if you make one you are just copying it, what else can you do. They are almost all the same anyway. It's hard to tell, how tall overall do you think the side pieces are? How much additional travel over stock? I'm guessing 5"-6" or so.

If you install it at full-height, interior sheet metal aside, your car could lay frame. So it could allow a ton more travel. The side pieces are about a foot tall. It all depends on how low you want to go.
