Saw this one at the Daytona Turkey Run yesterday. I don't know if it belongs to a fellow HAMBER or not but it is old school.
It's real, they made those beds specifically for Model A's, for farmers... DV8 had a coupe body FS a few years ago... Could this be it? His was used on a orange farm.
They were made and marketed during WWII - gasoline was rationed, exceptions were made for farm vehicles - so turn your car into a hauler and get extra gas rations.
In 1936 Chevy offered what they called the "Standard Coupe Delivery". These were Coupes fitted with a special pickup bed that could be removed when you wanted to convert back to a car. Chevy continued with this option until 1942. Ford discontinued using this design in 1937. Other makers also used this idea. I had a friend with a Hudson Coupe that sported this option. Cool idea for sure. The Australians started making their own version of a utility vehicle in the 30's. manufactured by Holden they called these utility vehicles "Utes". Chevy produced vehicles in Australia with Holden until 1952 and then started their own version in the US in 1959.
i learned to drive in an A like that but had a wooden box. my dad used it to go turtle hunting on the beach, had 8;20x15 tires on it.
