So I have a copy of Trend Books' Custom Car Annual 1955 that was falling apart. How to preserve it? Scan it, of course!
So I removed the staples, trimmed the binding, and talked a kid who works in my office into running it through our scanner a page at a time.
    ENJOY!!
I also have nice copies of the 1954 and 1956 Annual and this is definitely the best of the three. I guess it was a banner year for customs?

Note how many of these cars are not black, how few of them sit lower than about 7 or 8 inches off the ground, how few of them are running Cadillac Sombrero caps, etc. There was a lot more variety back in the day than now!

Sorry, you're going to need Adobe 9 to open these scans. I can't be choosy about the format since someone else is doing the scanning for me.

and the last of them for now. I can't find the front cover scan, but it's around here somewhere.
More to come in the future. Stay tuned!

Why not save them as .jpeg 's instead of pdf files??

As an experiment I saved the first image as a Word do***ent. We'll see how that works?

I'll talk to the kid doing the scanning and see if that's doable. (It's a funky scanner and it took a lot of head scratching just to get to this point!)

    I think you're right.
I'll see if I can get the next batch of scans as jpegs rather than pdfs, but this stuff is pure gold to anyone who really cares about period correct and/or kustom history. Some are Barris, some are Ayala, some are Cerny, some are Valley Custom, and quite a few are either home-built or done by some body shop somewhere. It's the variety and variation that I love, although I don't like about 50% of the cars. (There are a lot of them- it's a pretty thick book. I'll keep posting scans as we get a chance to do them.)

Okay, here's the deal: downloading Adobe reader is FREE. These vintage magazine photos I'm posting are FREE.
If anyone wants me to keep posting these let me know because I've got another dozen or so ready to go. If not, I will drop the whole idea and just keep the pdfs for myself.

I like them as a PDF. Savable, zoomable and easily printable. I say keep em coming

  17. Thanks for the scans Atomic (and the fellow in the office too)!

I didn't "tweak" these at all, and they may be out of order or have a page or two missing; but here they are as .jpgs..

    THANK YOU!
How do you do that, rodncustomdreams? If it's easy tell me how and I'll convert before posting. If it's not so easy I'll keep posting the pdf files and you can keep flipping them over to jpegs?

And the last four for today.
These aren't in any particular order. Sorry about that - the guy doing the actual scanning is doing them as a favor and I can't be too picky. (And he's never seen a kustom before other than my car so he isn't prioritizing the photos the way I would!)
