to anyone that can help, I recently bought 8 remfg shortblocks froma defunct machine shop, these were built in the 60s and have been in storage ever since, I have several olds short blocks (bellhousing cast in), is there any place I can go to get casting # info so that I can see what I actually have? I was told I have a couple ultra high compression versions, but have no experaince with olds engines, any help would be great

I believe www.442.com has info on casting numbers. If the pistons have ONLY small reliefs for the valves then they are 10.5:1 compression, if there is a small relief AND dished out pistons then they are 10.25:1, if the pistons are dished out then it is the low compression.
