Last year on my 61 parcel truck my alternator went bad..

I had to go under the truck hook up booster cables to get it going..

I was thinking of buying the tow jumper cables but all are over $150.00

They are installed by direct battery connection then have a quick disconnect so the one part can be mounted remotely and easy to use..

Since I only want this for me not to jump others and just for a emergency

I was thinking IF I could just get a 220volt dryer receptacle mount it on the truck to the battery

Then get a male plug to go in it (and able to remove) and make my leads with the jumper clamps

What do you think it safe enough ? Thanks for the info....

  2. You can get the ends you want cheap.
Your dryer plug idea is not a good one.

  3. Your starter draws many many times the current the dryer plug is rated for.

I seen race cars with welding connectors mounted on the outside of the car for quick connections. Welding cables are heavy enough to handle the current. Just have to make sure your cables are protected. Also, I'd want a secure cover so you don't have some dumb *** jamming something into them to short them out and cause them to burn.

the dryer cable will work as long as you use it to charge your battery and not to crank the truck if its totally dead. most cheap jumper cables are not any larger gauge then the dryer cords anyway

Companies like Moroso sell terminals that mount in a panel with like a 1" hole oe so... then have a screw terminal on one side and a lug to hook cables to on the other. They aren't very pricey and work nice. Clean, simple, no dryer plug involved.

+2 on the welder connectors. If you can find a s**** stick welder, the plug in taps are what you want. Free. And Welder Cable makes really good jumpers because it's so flexible.

We use this on the Bonneville car. And start a 15:1 582 BBC.

  8. Go ahead and build this then watch some idiot plug it in to 220 and hook the cables up to something !
Now where is my ex wives phone number.
