Hey guys, after finally deciding to rebuild my Edsel's 292 V8, I'm looking for a really highly rated machine shop in the Los Angeles area. I'm pretty picky when it comes to who touches my baby, so i'd like to find someone who can do a really kick *** job.

  2. Can't recommend anyone (will need one myself in the future) but suggest you try some on the small T-Bird guys. Please post if you find anyone.

"Old School" reliable Machine Shop... Have not lived in LA in 30+ years, but these guys were Excellent back then. Another was Clark Cagle in Paramount... Maybe still run by his son??? I really do not know for sure. :D:D:D

Try Cook's Machine Shop, ***ume that they are still in business, Cyclone Kevin is on this site, maybe PM him? I dealt with Cook's in the 60s and they were real old-style craftsmanship, and reviews since then confirm...

The cost of workmans comp and taxes is forcing a lot of good businesses out of Calif. The old school heart of hot rodding.

I've been gone from So-Cal way to long. But, what ever happened to Evan's Machine in the El Monte area? Get in touch with some of the SCTA clubs, guys there surely can tell you.

I’m 4 hours up the road from you (Fresno). I would be glad to send you some pictures of my custom work. I specialize in vintage engine of all kinds. Shoot me off an e-mail if you’re interested hotvega73@yahoo.com I will be coming down near Christmas to deliver a flathead in Santa Monica. If I could combine the trip I could possibly pick up or deliver your engine. Thanks

Evans Speed is still in So. EL Monte and does good work ...but he can take forever so if your not in a hurry.

Jim Grubbs in Valencia CA does top notch work

My favorite is still Speed-O-Motive always had good results for the last 40 years. But some have had mixed feelings so check it out.

JMS Engines in Monrovia is also pretty good.

Valley Head Service is still going and Larry Ofria races his 57 Chevy where I see him from time to time.

Cook's on Telegraph along the 5 FWRY. Nope, no engine work there anymore. I know both Jim @ current day Cook's and Cyclone Kevin. Only drive line service now.
