I am building a blown 58 392 hemi I have a set of Best gaskets that I was told I could use on previous blown SBC builds I have used Fel pro and then Cometic after a Felpro failure The cometics have caused a little prestone loss at certain times but very minimal what has anyone else used or had luck with. My finish on the block is very good and the heads are new alum from HH CR 8.5-1 and about 8-9 psi boost pump gas 91 octane but I do have a meth injection kit I may play with maybe on the SBC first because a mistake will be cheaper. The # of head studs on the hemi kind of concerns me this being new territory and all
    Thanks

In the 'old' days, Fitzgerald was the head gasket of choice. Not sure what they compare to these days. I have used the Fel-pro on previous blown projects with no issues.
Heads studs will help alot with the sealing along with some CopperKote.

I have ARP headstuds and used coppercoat on the SBC When my Fel pro failed on my sbc it cut the alum heads fairly deep when it pushed back I do not want that to happen to my hemi heads nor do I want prestone weeping

  5. The important thing to remember here is not that the finish on the block deck and cylinder head deck surface is " GOOD ". The actual surface finish needs to match the type of head gasket used. Different manufacturers and the many different types of head gaskets require different surface finishes.

The surface finish is measured in microinches on a Ra rating scale. Ra is " roughness average ". It is imperitive that the surface finish matches the gasket requirements to seal properly.

I do not know where on the RA scale my block finish would be and I probably do not have any means or tool to measure it The block was done by the same engine builder that built my SBC that I have used cometics on but there are a lot more studs with the SBC compared to the hemi as i said before this hemi is new territory for me I would like to get it right the first time.

  7. i have been down that road before with my blown hemi. the finish isnt all that important as having flat surfaces. with that kind of boost i o-ring the heads and groove the block. i use clark gaskets out of minnesota. their gaskets are dead soft no need to heat them up for re use. head studs are a must. plain old clear silicone on the deck and head surfaces works the best. forget copper coat it wont seal. be careful to not use too much silicone. you dont want it to push out and block any p***ages. i set my gasket in place then slide my heads over the studs. i push down on them then take them off inspecting the silicone to make sure there are no blockages. this is the only thing i have found that will work under boost conditions. i have tried a wire depth of 13 thousanths but 7 worked much better. clark offers gaskets for fuel cars and street cars. just tell them you are running water. the best thing is you can re use copper just keep track of the side they came off.
