YO, DUDES, Read the MUST READ by Ryan & almost afraid to come on. Not a NEWBIE, just a real OOOOOLDIE I'm Bill, an old Pan Dragger of Fresno from the '50's. Don't be too tough on me for now havin' "VERMIN," a fairly stock '29 Model A coupe, but it's got chrome acorn head nuts & 16" wires! I love all the great OLD street rod stuff. American Graffiti was just childs play, compared to the fun we had draggin' Fresno's MAIN!! Buster T, my FEARLESS dog, is tellin' me to quit while I'm ahead! Bill W.
Hi Bill, cool 'A' and awesome looking best friend too! Be cool to see some old photos if you have any from Fresno in the 50's, always cool to see, take care and hi from New Zealand
Yo, Manwolf, Not too many old pics, maybe Buster T. (The Dog) can help me find them! Anyone wish to speculate on what the dragster is, or it's build, or WHATEVER? Yes, that's me, when I was young & "BRILLIANT!" (Rough translation--STUPID!) Bill W.
Yo, Nobey, You forgot Imperial Drive In, Reed & Bell, & Norm's cheap burgers just before payday. After my dear wife, Pat, suffered dementia, I could make her laugh by singin' Stan's Private Line theme song! Yes I still know ALL the words! A great buddy bought THE HANGOVER out of Sacramento, Ca, hoping to make a street machine out of it. We threw my 1/4" X 5/16" flathead out of my '32 5 window in it & ran it up & down the valley for a great fun time. It's a '32 Austin Bantam 3 window on "T" rails, tube crossmembers, center steering, bomber seat stuffed in the back, and a double length stretched hood. Had a 6" long torque tube with the bell welded solid, NO driveshaft, the u-joint just plugged on to the stub pinion shaft. Only had front engine mounts as the whole power train was solid & the whole thing pivoted with movement of the rear spring. A blast to drive! Straddling the trans, clutch pedal on the left, HUGE throttle on the right, hand lever operating the brake master cylinder, hand pressure pump for the fuel tank, & a 6 volt dry cell to power the ignition & Tach. Pulling only second & high, with 26 tooth Zephyer gears, a 4.44 ring pinion, & 7.00 X 16 slicks. Oh! & the inside was sprayed with Robin Egg Blue Zolatone! How come I remember all the tiny details, but can't sometimes remember really IMPORTANT STUFF. I have to rely on Buster T. to remember the firing order of VERMIN, my Model A! He goes, "WOOF-WOOF-WOOF-WOOF! That car would get my old ticker really goin', once, I p**d before & DURING the run! We normally ran B/ALTERED coupe & sedan cl***, but sometimes they harrased us on engine move back, which was complicated by the "stretched" hood & front end & threw us into that DREADED Open Gas Cl***, damn, damn, damn!! Then we'd get MAD & just park it & I'd run my tow car, a '53 Stude Coupe with a 322 Nailhead Buick. But I got even, at Madera, Ca. drags, The Stude won a trophy for the Best Appearing Car. The ONLY trophy I EVER won IN MY LIFE. My Momma nearly wore that thing out shinin' it! The trophy had a lowered, moulded, GOLD! '36 3 Window on it, WITH FENDER SKIRTS!!!! Attached pic is my 80 MPH BANGER coupe, "MINERVA" that I had to sell last year, SIGH! Bill W.
Lets eat I'm hungry, then love can be renewed, your kisses thrill me, but I'm in the mood for food........ Neat car Bill thanks for the story. I didn't think anyone knew what Zolatone was anymore. Rich...
