Ok well I know gas costs have been a subject here...but News was just showing 6.07 a gallon in Atlanta...Yikes!

I am thinking of picking up another car...maybe a 57 Oldsmobile or something like that....

What we need is a HAMB Tech on how to run your rod on Propane...I know kits are out there. Has anyone done this? I know someone who has a Lincoln...I think its from the early 80's that will run on both gas and propane...

So I am seriously thinking about this one...just have to get it to bolt up I guess.

    Any thoughts?

Last week I read an article about a guy who had bought one of those new hybread cars, gas/electric, toyota or something. Anyway these cars charge themselves and this guy who bought one added a lot of batterys and modified the car so he could charge it at home. The car stock got around 50mpg and his gets 80mpg........but what made me cringe is this article was about "The new breed of Hot Rodders"

What about that "Mr. Fusion" set-up on BACK TO THE FUTURE?

That was filmed in the mid 80's....it should be available by now.

    Right?

  7. Yeah , Flux Capacitor, I've got a shelf full of them, they're obsolete. They also told me we'd have flying cars by the year 2000......I guess they lied.

Does anyone know if there is a list or website around that shows what cars will run E85 in them? Would be a start, could look at some of those engines for a rod. If there is a list somewhere, please let me know.

Edwin(Gr***hopper) ran propane in the 350 powered rockcrawling buggy we used to compete with. I will alert him to this thread. Propane is very popular a**** the crawling community because it lets ya run at odd and extreme angles. Keeps the inside of the engine nice and shiny too.

You bet man. I think E85 might be a good alternative to our current fueling "dilema". Been doing some checkin' off and on for a years or so,m my problem is that they don't sell it anywhere near me that I know of, yet. Most of the reading I've done says, if done right, you don't even lose MPG to speak of, you can run higher compression, and get comparable power and a cleaner burning car. I've also read that the original cars that ol' henry built were built to run corn alcohol. He saw it as the fuel of the future because it was renewable, unlike petroleum products (at least in our lifetime).

LPG is pretty common here - Every taxi is on it and they sell it at almost every petrol station.

    Some performance systems available too.

true true. that all changed when he hooked up with John D. Rockafellar who had this by-pruduct from his oil refinering processes that was just waste at the time. they called it GASOLINE. Mr. Rockafellar and Mr. Ford struck up a deal, that was profitable for them both, and so gasoline became the fuel of choice for internal combustion engines.

Here in Illinois we have a ethenol plant about 20 miles from us. You do lose a little on milage but make it up on what it cost. It was a $1.75 last week but now they are on the band wagon for pushing the cost of fuels up. Today it was at $2.80.

Zman, you da man (sorry, bad rhyme). I should have known, Ever-Ready is who we deal with for bulk oil. I just don't see it at gas stations, so I never looked at the locals. Thank you.

  25. I'm ready. Hell, we distilled alcohol in 7th grade in a dang cl***room.....and I'm a little sharper of an idiot than I was then.....so it shouldn't be a problem ;)

But there's some weird multiple dynamic about 'stillin alcohol to burn instead of drink, and Revenue'rs & hot rods I haven't got a grip on yet...

Unless i'm mistaken isn't alcohol currosive to aluminum:eek: .I'm pretty sure that is why the oem manufactures have coatings on all the fuel system componants.Or is that just nitro:confused: ? A mind is a tarible thing to taste!

  28. hey crew,

this oil shortage will not end as some predict if the theory of Peak Oil is correct. its been said that supply for the first time has not met demand and that the oil producing countries in the gulf are actually at capacity - there just isnt any additional oil.

if someone wants i can go through the math but id be looking to solar powered stills for alcohol to use in cars in the future. im not greenie tree hugging hippy by any stretch but i think the time of almost free oil is at its end. id be suprised if we could still afford to run our cars in 5-8 years time.
