I think you could make a kit to sell these. Possibly. Think of all the pre-war guys who will praise you for giving them a reason to better their ride without the modern look.

Like the idea, but if you wanted to stay with the friction shocks, could you connect them to the shackles at the rear spring mount? Seems like that would get them down away from the body.

As an old friend in the military vehicle restoration hobby used to say, "you can make it as complicated as you want".

Ok what about mounting the chamber of a McPherson strut shock in the turtle deck and camouflaging the downward extending strut with appropriately styled spring and end caps as per attached photo.

This is true, but I don't think I have the room forward of the spring...which is where they would need to go to clear everything.

I haven't really decided to ditch them or not yet...still have some research to do yet.

This is kinda what I had in mind if I do end up going the McPherson route, but it's still up in the air. The spring is an interesting idea.

    *UPDATE*
    Just a quicky..

Just posting a quick update on the new lights. As a Birthday present to myself, I spent the afternoon re-wiring then and polishing up the reflectors.

Hopefully they will be shedding some new light on my garage wall this weekend!

    More to come.

    *UPDATE*
    More lights.....

I had a few moments last night to mess around with the new headlights and get them on the car. Wednesday night I took the forks apart and adjusted them to fit the new lights.

Sorry for the poor quality photos....don't have the good lighting installed in the garage yet..

Ooo yeah, those look good on there!

  10. The new headlamps do look good- now you just need to donate the old ones to a good home that'll put'em on a GM based vehicle... :D

It's guys like you that make me feel good about the direction of tradition in this hobby by the next generation. Not to mention that your T is inspiring indeed. I love that thing, it has a really cool "presence" about it, so to speak. Good job, and thanks for sharing it with us.

I have to agree they do look sharp...just have to get them painted, the bezels stripped and polished...and finish the wiring.

Gee Mac....that was a REALLY specific suggestion, just who's "good home and GM based vehicle" are we talkin' 'bout here? :D

Thank you kindly for the very flattering comments! As I have said before, If I can help p*** on the old ways of true "traditional Hot Rodding" to my generation and those after me, I have done my part and am happy for it.

I am still amazed at how popular this car has become over the years. It was just an ol' Model T that I built to have fun with...and keep me out of trouble :D

Every time I get a compliment or a message like this, I am all the more flattered and honored by it.

    *UPDATE*
    Mounted, but not wired..

One of the things I wanted to get don this weekend was to finish off the new lights for the T. Got them mostly done, but have some wiring to sort out and a few parts to make on the lathe for them however. I will most likely temp wire them up for now until we get the plug holders on the inside of the light buckets made up.

Buckets look good. I'm looking forward to seeing the bezels stripped back to the nickel. Kind of lend a Rolls-Royce look to the front.

Me too. I was hoping to get them stripped as well, but was out of Acetone. The Nickle under the portion I did get stripped looked REALLY nice...the paint preserved it very well....

Hope to get some more solvent and get them finished in the next few days.

I kinda see what you mean about the Rolls look (the shape I ***ume), but they are the same size as the original set. These are way better built though.

Clayton, Thos are some bad to the bone LIGHTS ! Your "T" looks real good with them. On my '31 Model "A" I am using '28 Pontiac or Buick "drum" style head lights. Also have "drum" style cowl lights. Will probably mount them off of the head light brackets. Looking forward to seeing mine on the road with these parts.

Thanks 64 DODGE! I have had those for so long with no real plan for them...this seemed like the best use. I also think they look better and they are built way nicer then the other pair....which made for some issues over the years, the main reason for replacing them.

Now...just gotta get out to the garage and get them wired up.

Thanks guys! I would sure hope those new lights didn't make things look weird.

I guess your right 64.....wiring up the lights might help a bit for seeing at night :D

  28. Hey Clayton,
Saw your car headed through Sherwood the other morning on a flatbed tow truck , and just wondered what was up?
