Holmsey where are you?

I am trying to make contact with HAMB member Holmsey. I e-mailed through his UK website a month ago, but no response. Would like to discuss his choice of wheel/tire size used on his F100.

Anyone able to put up the flag?

I have 8 x 18 all round with 215 x 45 fronts and 235 x 50 rear. The rears are quite tight I can't remember the offset but can find out for you.

 

I had 6 x 15 on the front of mine with 225/60 tyres

I mentioned the Goodguys SW National car show currently in Phoenix on the UK forum, as I went armed with wheel/tire questions, and got a great deal of info. Like your nice truck, 18's were far and away the most popular, although not smoothies, but more modern cragar mag style.

So all this input is congealing into a strategy to maximize the fender (wing) well for the biggest, widest tire that still looks good.

Holmsey, can you find the front offset you used? I used the Jag like you did on the front, and right now the front wheels appear too far inboard. I have even thought I might have to use spacers to push them out. Especially to get the same reveal on the rims as the rear, which uses a T-bird IRS.

Hi John, I will measure for you maybe a day or so though/ Off the top of my head I think they were 3 1/2 inset and 4 1/2 offset same front and back.
I am not a great lover of big inch and rubber band tyres ( I was) but felt the cavernous arches of the F100 needed more wheel and 18's seemed bang on to me.
Originally I was looking for steels but they weren't doing the 18inch steel then.
Also wanted a 50 or 60 series front tyre but couldn't find a tread match front and rear at the right price ;o).

 

I will not be disappointed if my fit ends up looking as good as yours! Did you do bags all around? I like the rake.

No bags just std Jag suspension. I set it up level originally but had to lift the rear as I tow a caravan and the tyres catch on the bed when going round corners etc ;o)

 

Jclars did you check out Holmsey Build Thread he did? It was very informative and helpful. The Best part was his humor.. Need to check it out!!

 

Yeah, thats where I first caught sight of his wheel set-up. Went through the entire thread a couple of times. Holmsey should be a TV host!

I will get back to you with the inset off set spec soon as I can be ****d to open the garage as it just seems to be cold and wet here all the time ;o).

I re-did a lot of what I wrote as I used to only find time to write it when I was pee'd off with the build, so much of it was proper negative! I was worried someone may get real depressed reading it so I made it a bit more positive with a re-write ;o)...

 

Sory Dude not been in the garage lately.. well not to take a wheel off the truck that is ;o) I have some work to do on the daily tomorrow so I will do me utmost to get the inset offset for you. Sorry for being a lazy tw4t! ;o)

 

Appreciated. Keeping an eye on this thread. Up to "me" eyeballs in 89 T-bird wiring harness. Man these modern engines have a lot of electronics...

 

Hi sorry still ;O).. I haven't forgotten, just a lot going on at the Mo (long story). I went in the garage last night and tried to measure rear ones laying on my back but wasn't accurate enough.. they are looking like 5 offset and 3 inset from the look last night.

I am just having to go to Hospital every day (twice a day) see me old Ma in intensive care and also trying to mint up an old **** box to trade for a newer car etc etc etc ;o(.....

I cant find the original receipt from Wheel Vintiques that would be to easy.. I need to take a wheel off and its a pain... But I will do it in the next few days honest ;o).... I am chuffed you like it so much you bothered to ask Dude!

I only need the front offset, as my rear is a T-bird and stock appears to be fairly close on offset. The front Jag is narrower and I am trying to balance it with the fat fenders like you did.

Hi I have taken one of my wheels off and measured it and taken photos I am just on with getting the photos onto here. It looks like 4 1/2 inset and 3 1/2 offset. But I will let you see photos in case I am reading wrong as I am no expert ;o)

 

I remember ordering 8 x 18 inch wheels x 4 cant remember offset inset now I have measured them I am not sure how to read what the tape says so make of this what ya will or see if anyone knows how to read properly .. hope this helps ya and I must apologise for being such a lazy **** and taking so long...

 

Super Holmsey - exactly what I need, as I used your "as finished" stance and footprint as a starting point in discussion with a tire/wheel supplier. It appears the wheel offset is close to stock Jag. Your measurements confirm the slight dish you got on the front side, which is what I want.

Rather than buy wheels online, I am working it through with the supplier to narrow down the wheels that will fit with a T-bird SC wheel pattern (5x4.25). The T-bird offset is 1/2" more (+) than the stock Jag offset. Over the holidays I obtained some 1.25" spacer/adapters for the Jag front which pushed the T-bird wheels outboard nicely. I think this will get me the slight dish I want to fill out the fender well.

The next step is to trailer my truck into the shop and have some trial fits with the chosen wheels/tires. I am sticking with the 18" dia like your rig.

Hi John glad that helps you. Sorry it took so long, hope you get your Truck how you want it. Just had a look at your photos your truck looks great you are doing a fantastic job,it sits real nice. I found mine dropped a good 2 inch once driven and suspension settled. I have raised the rear on mine for towing but prefer it low and level...
