at british-cars.net stumbled on this 1948 MG-TC modified in 1948 BY SO-Cal Speed Shop. Work done by Doane Spencer and Alex Xydias. 1940 Ford V8-60, stroked 1/16", 164 ci, Ardun heads, custom Mallory ignition, etc. It has been upgraded over the years by Dean Moon and others.
Does anyone remember that picture of a MG like that in an old pic sitting in front of Bell Auto Parts....maybe its the same one?
at britishv8.org there is a forum thread: T5 Transmission Mount - about mating a Mustang T5 to a V8-60 in another MG
My late father-in-law raced a similar car in So Cal in the '50s. His was a MG-TD with a V8-60. The way he told it, he started out with a stock TD and then when the engine let go replaced it with a V8-60 because MG parts were hard to come by. The car continued to shed MG parts and gain various American parts until I think only the MG frame was left.
I like how everything hot roddy is under the hood (Bonnet?) so that the only clue to what's about to happen is the sweet sound of dual exhaust.
Those cars were/are ripe for hot rodding. Here's another one with a SBC tucked under the hood from the April, 1960 issue of Rod Builder.
I saw that Ardun MG race at Laguna Seca during the Monteray Historic races in 1983. When I saw it running on the track, the sound was awesome, like a small Hemi. When I found the car in the pits, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I had no idea Ardun heads were ever made for V8-60's. That is one impressive car.
