    Help Guys,
I'm selling some car parts locally and received the following e-mail:

I would love to pay you a visit at your place and check the item out, but i had an accident which affected my knees can't walk and the doctor advised static movement......How ever your asking price is quite reasonable and affordable considering others I've seen lately, I'll take it.However, I'll like to complete the payment through PayPal for the safety of both of us. In addition, I'll need your name, the pickup home address where the item is at and please include your paypal email address for the payment.

Many of you are probably smarter than I. Is this a scam attempt?
Sounds fishy to me, but maybe I'm just old school.
    Thanks for the advice!

ps I'm also looking for some drum brakes for my vintage midget. Any body have some in your "stuff"?

I think that guy got his knees shot out for trying to pull that scam on the local Mafia.

Shouldn't need your home address to complete a trans action..

    Sounds fishy to me..

Can always have the guy call you.. if its a scam they usually make excuses about not being able to call.

My guess you'll never get payment and he'll send someone over to pick up the parts..

Don't do it, have him call you and if its local make the deal happen local. There are fees with paypal as well so just better off making it happen local with no payment besides cash exchange, sounds risky.

  6. Talk to the guy. PayPal is usually pretty secure, and he probably needs the address to figure out how to get stuff shipped/picked up. Still...talking to the guy is one way to alleviate your fears. If it's even slightly sketchy, walk away.

Glad to see your questioning this. Asking for to much info!!

Could be Stealing your identity! Only needs your paypal email address to send you money.

When you sell parts locally and you don't know the guy, meet in a public place. Don't let him check your place out!! Always talk with them on the phone not just through email.

Never take Paypal on a local pickup item. All your buyer has to do is go hame and fill an item not recived claim. If you don't have a tracking number thay can easily get their money back out of Paypal.

Paypal is a topic in itself. Personally, I have never had any problems sending or receiving money with it. The nice thing about that unmentionable auction site is that you can get an idea of who you are working with before proceeding. In this case, you have no idea.

Also, how is the part supposed to be picked up (or shipped)? If he could make it to your house if he had no medical issues, surely he can send a friend to pick it up or you could meet him at his house (for cash either way...).

The above appears to be a pretty generic response which could've been sent to 100 people. There's no mention of the part(s) except the words 'item' and 'it', and no specific price, plus everybody usually makes an offer initially that's lower than the asking price.

    I vote SCAM.

Man, it's really become a horrible world, hasn't it ? :( We have to second guess anything someone asks or tells us any more.

It could be a scam but as the others said, I would simply go back to the guy and tell him straight up you have concerns about it being legit and you would like a phone number so you can speak. Then you will probably have a better idea of if he is for real or not. Even cash can be phoney, so if he is paying that way go to Office Depot and get one of those yellow pen dealies.

I really miss the good old days. :(

Exactly. If I'm selling an item on CL and get an email wanting to buy it, if that email doesn't specifically mention the item by name that I'm selling, I just delete it.

Paypal is the scammer friend, never in favor of seller. As mentioned above he can screw you out of funds later even if you withdraw them. Paypal will send collection on you.

PP is usually safe, but it does sound fishy.....I agree with talking with the guy. My CL ad responses usually are from some hot young girlie telling me I sound hot in my ad on selling something dumb and wanting to hook up. The wife & I crack up, especially when they send pictures and they don't look 13. Seller beware!!

Weird language and mentioning the item being sold as the 'item' rather than being specific is a cue to delete.

He only needs your email address to send a payment through PayPal. Like said before he probably wants your address to send someone to pick the parts up but you won't get the paypal payment. Tell him if the parts are going to be picked up they can pay cash at that time. Scammers will have a reason why they can't get cash, then it's time to tell him to go away

I was trying to sell a Harley awhile back, I recieved all types of stories...... DONT DO IT...... ALL SCAMS...

  22. When I sell stuff locally on craigslist I hide my email and state in the ad cash only. Talking to a buyer on the phone gives me a better sense of who I am dealing with.
    Has worked so far...

  24. Just send him the parts and trust him? Then go jump off a tall mountain head first. See which one hurts the most :)

When I sell stuff on CL I always put in the ad "Phone calls only, I do not text or answer emails and will delete them." However, I still get emails, even though I checked the box that says to hide my email address. I also have to put my phone number in half numbers and half spelled out, like 1-800-three 2 seven........etc.

Absoultley a SCAM, I have had several of these come to me especially when I post on Craigslist. These Cats want your personel information to Idenitity hack, they even have a fake PayPal page that comes up. You can forward this to PayPal and get them shut down, I suggest it.
