whats the difference between merc and ford flathead heads? I just picked up a set of merc heads and was wondering if you gain anything by running them on a ford flathead?

If you are talking about the 49-53 Merc engine. the difference in the heads is the Merc has a larger combustion chamber to keep the comperssion low do to the increased displacement of the Merc. One of the best thing you can do is put Foer EAB heads on a Merc. It raises compression maybe 8:1.

  3. What about milling the 8cm heads to increase compression?

You can do that but it might be easier & cheaper to find a set of EAB heads.

If you are useing an 8ba engine ( Ford) as posted EAB is the best, hard to find, use the3 8ba head mill it and it will be as good as the EAB Laurie
