Trading just for fun how far will it go...Heres mine..Lets see yours!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kellys Hot Rod Parts, Dec 1, 2012.

  1. I started my quest for the fun of trading in the early summer of this year with a 1949 chopped pro street shoebox. I bought cheap just to have some fun. Here are the trades so far::: I traded the non running 49 shoebox pro street project for a running and driving sbc powered 60 Pontiac flat top sedan then trades the Pontiac for a lowered 50 plymouth with a stock drive train and a flake roof.I then traded the Plymouth for a 1980 L82 Corvette ( I know.. I know!)and now... well I hope the Vette go's soon I have it for sale or TRADE all over. I need to get back into the pre 60 swing ...Below are pics of the trades so far..Anyone else trading just for fun..Show your trades here the more trades made off your original purchase the better!! Ok now I traded the ugly 80's vette for fairly decent 68 big block Ford convert,,,,,for sale or trade now...

Man, you broke the chain with the disco-vette. Hope you move up soon. But it sounds like a lot of fun has been had.

Sounds like fun. Remember the guy that started with a paper clip (or something like that) and ended up with a HOUSE?

I am thinking this is a pretty good game to play and have thought about it seriously for profit and also to make a trade or two to get where I wanted, but the idea of just starting with something and keeping the trade deal going and going sounds like a lot of fun. If you can just make an incremental increase in value each time, think where you could be someday!

  4. You would not believe the trade offers I have received on the Vette they range from a 2000 V8 Jeep cherokee to a 67 Chevy 4x4 with a 383 and a lift...Just waiting for a disco dude with the 55 nomad to contact me ....He has to be out there somewhere!!

Oh, and I turn down 70s vettes constantly.
I usually tell them after theyre offended I decline their offer, that I already have a 'work car'

  7. WOW you really are Grumpy..Purchased cars do not count!! Before Jeannes health problem forced me to retire I had a collector car dealership for 16 years and made a lot of big money trades and deals,,Call me some time and I will tell you the complete story about a hotel room a 32 Ford a Chicago cop and an A&P bag full of money..Anyone with some cash in hand can purchase a car and sell it but...Trading is a art form not everyone can do. Next time someone wants to trade you a 70s Vette if its a 4 speed 1970-74 call me..I can sell them all day long.....ps if you want to talk sold check out my website at www.hoenterprisesclassics.com for a small sample...

  8. Personally, I think you should have stopped with the Pontiac.

I meant the crappy 77 style vettes. The ones all over CL for 4k. If it has chrome bumpers, front n back, I consider them.

I am thinking about doing the same so I can get the 40 ford I always wanted and will stop with the 40.

  17. ok, here we go. in janurary i bought a 57 chevy truck cheap. it had a clip, 400 sbc and auto. i put on craigslist for trade the first of june. got many many offers for good stuff. 57 chevy, 5 different tahoes, motorcycles, tools, and even a brand new generator still in the box. i really can't remeber all the offers.

in july i got the offer i was waiting on. 1950 mercury. clip, sbc, ect. running and driving car. since in one trade i was able to attain the holy grail of automobiles (ha ha) i think i'll stop here.

it's a beater, but, i've been driving it almost daily ever since.

My best trade was back in 1978 when I traded a 440 crank and rods that I picked up at an auction for $7.00 dollars, for a 1972 Dodge Demon 340 less engine and trans. Those were the days.

Do you end up paying any sales tax to the DMV in Wisconsin when you trade? I think here in Kansas they would sting you every time you went into the DMV to license the newest traded-for vehicle.

I'd imagine most heavy traders never register them in their names but just pass a signed title along until a person that's gonna keep it signs as the buyer and registers it. Kelly probably has a dealer licence and plate.

  25. I am just finishing up some things on this 32 tudor and would like to trade for a 32 Five window. Entire car or just the sheet metal. 2Dr. body and fenders are perfect(no patch panels). Car and/or body will also be for sale.

  26. Nope just a custom peaked, smoothed and louvered 49 Ford hood

  27. Not a whole car, but I just made a trade with another member here for valve cover breathers. He had a set I wanted and vise versus, puts the ol "swap" back in the swap meet section. I do my fair share of swapping parts for parts to get what I need, makes it fun too.

I traded an 89 Ford F150 brown on brown on brown with a long bed for a 64 F100 brown long bed. Almost same truck separated by a few years. Seems like both of us were happy with it. Can't really claim it was a major come up, but I'm much happier banging through the 3 speed and listening to the Y block through loud pipes.

  30. If you trade straight there is no tax due in Kansas.
