Don't know what to do. I love the shape of the rear of 49/52 Chevys and I worked so hard repairing what the guy that had my car before me did, he cut giant holes that didn't match up to anything so I repaired them and now I need ideas for tail lights. Don't really want to put anything on those beautiful curves. I need pics of different things.

Almost 40 years ago, I saw a 2 dr ht..maybe 50-51? on the highway near Boston. I always remembered that car for the taillights, and being a rare HT. It had Lincoln Cosmopolitan? round ones. They are the ones that look slightly tunneled from the factory, to match those sunken headlights on that Lincoln.

It looked really good, but that car was a rod build style, not a low custom. The lights were inboard of where the chevy light was.

Man you did a great job on fixing those curves and I think those tail lights on the Merc bumper would be the ticket for sure.

I think the bumper guard lights are the best looking. Another option, truck lights bolt to a bracket & then the vehicle.
Maybe recess in the bumper like the El Caminos?

You guys think those bumper guard lights are enough? They seem small and low to me ? I'd hate to see you get rear ended.

I thought about that. A buddie of mine has a 59 and I took measuerments and they are to wide believe it or not they are and I didn't want to widen the quarters.

Slddnmatt's tech thread was very impressive, and those lights look great. I'm just not sure if it's enough light in the right place.

I use fog lamp bulbs in the lights I made for my '40. They are just as bright as LED and look better when lit up.

I'm going to take a picture of my lights to show you....you might like them.

If you go the lights in the bumper route, I would consider a 3rd brake light. I know not traditional, but this day and age there are to many assholes on cell phones, and are just preoccupied. I have seem 50 pontiac mounted just below the the trunk lid.

Sounds like you are leaning toward the bumper guard lights, which look great. But since you did ask for pictures of other ideas, here's what I did. I think it might look nice on your Chevy?

I made my own buckets that mount from inside the fenders ( no pictures). They are the same depth top to bottom and side to side, unlike the old Ford buckets which concentrate the light in the center of the lens only. I used a pair of Juliano's fog lamp bulb upgrade deals for the light source, and painted the inside of the buckets white. These things are very BRIGHT.

The lenses are '49 Ford, turned 90 degrees and sunk into the fender just enough that the lens is flush with the surface of the fender.

Great job! Like them alot they look very good and that was my orignal plan untill I got the quarters in primer after filling the holes. It just looks so nice and clean without anything there. I just need to see different ways.
Thnaks for posting yours, as I said they look great

51 Pontiac tail lights inboard of the fenders would look cool and not mess up your nice work. They repo them now and new ones are not expensive.
