Hello, I have heard that you can mate any wheel to any column. Does anyone know if this is true or at least a 56 chevy wheel to 88caprice column can be done and if so where I can get the adapter as well as things I need to look for while I trying to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It will fit just fine without an adapter.

Here's a pic of my 55 wheel on a caprice column,

    Nice looking wheel

So what is the deal.. Is it just a plain straight out swap and that is it??? Any other detail will be great.

Absolutely false... just depends on the column and wheel you're using!! You can make anything work, but just throwing a wheel and column together and expecting them to fit is unlikely!!

  5. Most GM cars use the same size steering shaft with the same splines from the mid-30s into the 1990s, with exception of certain large cars (late 50s Caddy, Buick, Olds for sure), and a couple years of Corvair. 56 Chevy on 88 Chevy will fit right up.

If you keep the lock plate and all that you will probably have to drill it out for the horn contact on the wheel, if it has one that sticks out of the back.

if you got a wheel and a column, just put them on, either it fits or it doesn't
