I have a '67 F-100 w/ a 240 6cyl-4spd trans 2wd. the ford/autolite carb is shot, shafts are worn and its just plain worn out. Engine is all new overhaul with a stage 2 cam and s.s. valves for our ****ty fuel we can buy.. What i need is some info on a replacement carb that peeps have had good luck with. 6 cyl stuff is new to me so i'm at everyones mercy.. Thanks, Hotrodwelder
I switced from the Ford/Autolite to a YF Carter on the 240 in my 65 Econo. went with the Duraspark dizzy with GM module as well. What a diferrence. Plenty of spark for a smooth idle and quick cold starts.
The old "my dog is bigger than your dog" question. Both Carter and Holley produced carburetors for the Ford 240 CID engine as original equipment. Follow this link to find the identification number of many different Autolite, Carter, and Holley carbs used as original equipment: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/TruckkitsF.htm#TkitFord Which is best? Probably the one YOU (or your tuner) is most comfortable with! Personally, I would rank them Carter, Autolite, Holley. The Holley has the advantage that parts are more readily available, and the disadvantage of using 20~30 percent more fuel than either the Carter or the Autolite. The choice is yours. Jon.
An Offy Intake and small Holley 4 barrel (390 or 500 cfm) makes a great replacement for the OE stuff.
I put an Autolite 2100 from a 352 on my 240 F-100 and it worked out nicely after fiddling with the linkages
FrozenMerc: Just saw your motor today. I like it. Clean , simple and down to business. How does it run? Best of luck...jack Long live the longmotor.
What did you have to do to make the carter Yf work with 65 240 motor? Getting ready to do the same but need more info, thx!
