electro sheet brakes

i am looking for a new brake..any one have any feed back on the electromagnetic metal brakes ? any good ?

 

Well they say that induction motors are more durable. I am assuming that electro-magnetic means that it is using an induction motor.

Nope never used one.

 

Baleigh gave one away on here a month or so back. Judging from what I saw on the video it looks amazing. Could be way useful.

Where it really shines is deep box's. Plus you can form a four sided box. Where I had a problem was hems. It is pretty portable.

While its interesting, for the price I will stick with my finger brake. What it doesnt show is full width bending in both 16ga steel and aluminum and by the look of the bend itself, that is not a clean crisp bend. Now if I was on a job site doing duct work I could see me having that unit instead of going back and forth to the shop for a custome piece or hacking somthing together. You could never make that pyramid out of aluminum and really how many calls would you get for one.

 

I bought one for the shop where I was working about 30 years ago. I can't remember exactly but I think it may have been Roper that first brought them out. This was at a sign shop and it was handy for some unusual fab work. It was kind of a pain to deal with the loose pieces and it sat in the corner most of the time. It was easier to use a regular break. There are things only it can do and the price is half of what I spent a long time ago.

 

I had the chance to see one of these in action after using a standard brake for a number of years now.
All i have to say is wow. The options for using this thing are pretty much limited to your imagination.
It bends nice crisp bends or more rounded bends, you can roll a 360 on it by putting a piece of tube inbetween the tooth and the metal. Its an amazing piece of equipment. The guy i got a demo from had made a full length set of 37 ford running boards with it, thats right all one piece.
Its spendy but not massivly so, obviously its not for the common shop but i know we are saving to get one becuase it will get very used.
