A friend has a set of 17" coys wheels on his Cuda. They. Have held up very well still look new after like 5 years..
I was in Kauai the week after Halloween in Kapa'a. It only rained twice a day.... once at sunrise and once at sunset. Thats not thaaaaaaaaat much ha ha ha ha. For the amount of vintage steel rolling around over there I think anything thats not a rental Jeep Wrangler, Mustang Convertible, or a lifted 4Runner would stand out quite a bit. If those wheels from COY seem like they would be easy to take care of its your ride. I had my stock wheels chromed and reversed and they have actually been pretty easy to take care of. They wipe out really easy with just a soft cloth. I use some gl*** cleaner on the harder spots. Good luck and Ill have to look you up next time I go on vacation.
Drugasm, you were in my backyard. you were lucky you missed all the fun earlier this year.We had almost THREE FEET of rain in one day. Its got to go down in some record book somewhere. I thought my fullsize pickup was going to get washed away out of my drive. You couldnt go anywhere because of all the damaged roads. Near kilauea the road fell into some kind of sinkhole, everyone on the north shore was trapped for days unless they could hire a boat to get out, and a lot of homes were under water. It ****ed. But yea, between the rain, humidity and salt air Ill be busy trying to keep the rust a bay. Definitely let me know your coming next time!
As far as keeping tires goes... WWW's - I admit I need to clean mine once in a while Regular WW's - When I had them on my '56 I NEVER cleaned the white part and I drove the **** out of that car cross country and everywhere. If you're worried about keeping them get some stock wheels, radial WW's, and Lancer caps. DONE!!!
Mitchell, I think thats probably whats going to happen. That would look good and probably be the easiest to take care of, plus I can save $$ because I have the wheels already.
I've never had much faith in chrome on aluminium - I treat it as something to avoid. I'd go with Torque Thrusts or similar if that's the style you're after - either polished or as cast finish.
I suggested ETs as a better alternative to the Coys. (chrome or polished 5-spoke) Then he posted something about the car being a mild custom. I suggested chrome OE type wheels with skinny whites and stand by that suggestion.
I'll chime in on this one. I have a set of coys on the wife's 36 build, got them fairly cheap, and they were the size I was looking for, mainly 17x7 up front. I am a WWW guy, always ran wides whites on everything I had. I am still on the fence about these, but my wife loves them. She loves the look of the truck and does not want to change. Whats a guy to do. Happy wife-happy life. I could have it worse. But what will end up happening is those wheels will "run out of style" and we will change them later. Point is, if you like them get em, you can always change them out later.
Yep. 17" & 20"s. Hard to beat for the price. You can buy the 15"s for not much more than steel wheels. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
My wagon has Coy's C-5 wheels like Harrison. 17's on the front and 18's on the back. They look good to me and thats all I have to please. Besides Coy's are about the best deal out there right now.
Supremes with ribbon whites look great. I have TTO's on my 62 Bonneville Safari. They look killer. My 2cents worth
The Coys are great wheels, they are a one peice design and the balance great. As far as cleaning Im not sure on the chrome but the gray spoked Coys are clear coated and clean up very easy..............Good Luck it aint hard makin a 60 Elcamino look good.
Just another suggestion, I had a 60 wagon with 16 and 17 dropped spindles one coil removed on the front and 3 coils removed from the rear spring. I used 205/55/16 and 255/5517 on 7 and 8 inch rims with the exception of tweeking the exhaust in the rear wheelwell, they fit great and fit the size of the car better. I will try to find some pictures, I also useed the same combo on the 63 biscayne on my profile page.
