  1. Any/anybodys classic, collectible, hot rod, recovered is a good thing.
    That's great news.

I don't know if that is as much the case as there is a much larger theft issue/ring in Cali than there is in nowheresville Florida. I bet there isn't such thing as TARP here anywhere in Fl.

No, No, better yet, make them spend a whole week with Dr. Phil giving them advice.
I know that may be bordering on cruel and unusual punishment, but they've got it coming to them.
    .
All joking aside, I'm glad that the cars were recovered, and will find their way back to their rightful owners.

I know of 2 cars this crew or a similar one took. A 59 Impala & 64 Chevelle were stolen in the High Desert a few years ago. Both were stripped, Chevelle was found in No Cal, an empty shell. Impala was never seen again. Hope they get charged with grand theft and they get sent up the river.

It's just a car for god's sake. Murderers don't even get treated the way some recommend these guys do. Are cars suddenly more precious than life itself? A little perspective is in order.....

  11. A car is easily more valuable than 99% of the trash I have had to work with my whole life, a human life holds no special value to me than anything else dose.

Yeah, I'm also hoping they get charged,... but "up the river" much too nice, naw,
I'm hoping they get sent out to the High Desert.

Good to hear, hope the thieves get what they deserve...likely wont

I do find it surprising that Dr Phil, a liberal, would own a 57 Chevy...Was it converted to electric?....I now have a little respect for him, still refuse to watch the show.....lol

  17. I don't know that killing is appropriate and no one except the dealer learns anything when a killing is dealt out. If you have never actually killed anyone might I suggest that this is not a good time to start.

Now a serious maiming is something that the receiver will remember, I think that is why in some countries they cut your hand off if you steal something. One can really learn something from a serious maiming.

Actually prison time can be something memorable if you are not tough or have tough friends on the inside, but even at that prison is just a university for many.

It is really hard to decide what is a fitting punishment for a given crime, we don't maime in this country and many states have abolished the death penalty for even the most heinous of crimes. I personally have some strong opinions about punishment but lets us not get political here. What ever is dealt out to the thieves will not be decided on an internet forum, they got caught it looks like the good doctor is going to get his car back and that is that.

Now on a different vein this not in defense of Doc Watson, he is a grown man a perfectly capable after all, I know a little about where Watson comes from and maybe those of you who are judging him shouldn't be so quick to judge. People like Watson and myself (and a geat number of others whom I have a deep respect for) come from a different and turbulent time on history; sometimes attitudes about things like human life come from the way that people have been treated by humans. Old and beat up like he is if I were in trouble I would want Watson standing by my side, or on my back.

Lack of appropriate punishment for murderers is no excuse for lack of appropriate punishment for other crimes. Community service is NEVER an appropriae punishment for theft unless there are extenuating circumstances (criminal is a child, theft of food to feed family, etc.). These guys should do time AND pay a hefty fine. Greed was their motivation and therefore their financial resources should be part of their payment.

From your stand I can assume you have never had a car stolen that you've spent years working on and sunk a whole bunch of money into. When you first look at the empty spot where your car used to be you get all kinds of ideas of inflicting mayhem on the thieves. I think some pain would be the order of the day.

The reason that they cut a thief's hand off in some countries is that they dont have asswipe so they use a little cup of water and hand wash their butt. Since these people also eat with their hand (wipe butt with one and eat with other), they are essentially left with one hand to do both...a form of shame.

"You shouldnta done that, MMMkaaay!" -Dr. Phil.
Going back to the argument of punishment, I believe thieves are fixable. It's a shame people got their pride and joys stolen, but sometimes you get around the wrong people and its hard to get away from stupid shit like GTA.
Murderers, Rapists, and Child Molesters are the ones needing to be hung by their balls until maggots take over. 99% of those people are not fixable. The other 1% would think again before committing the crime if this were the real punishment.

No. But I had my home broken into and lots stolen. Far worse, imo.

  23. x2!

  24. Yea but they remember it don't they. If you killed them it would be too easy and they wouldn't have learned a thing.

Like I said nothing will come of discussing the appropriate punishment on an internet forum. What usually happens is that all the wannabe bad guys jump up with what they would do and the overwhelming majority of them in reality would not do a damned thing. Even if they really would we really don't want to live in that society, vigilanty justice is nearly never a good thing.

Did you notice the sentence for the Travolta Mercedes?? 14 years! Of that they'll probably serve 2, then be back out on the streets doing it again as it's the only thing they know how to do.
The stolen 32 by this time is either parts or overseas.. SUCKS!!!

Since then, I insure everything for theft to its full value, usually more to keep ahead of inflation. This way if I do happen to become a victim again, I know I'll be able to replace-in-kind and not get too upset about it all.

The amount of low riders, kustoms and hot rods in the far east that are questionably dead on to american style is staggering.

  30. Glad the 57 and other cars were recovered and hopefully some justice for the people doing the chop shop work. Unfortunately being CA, some limp wristed liberal judge will probably feel sorry for them and be lucky if they see prison time.
