Stop & Shop had the issue I bought. Never knew that magazine was out there, I'll have to add the other three issues to my collection. :)Bob

Its a realitivly new mag. Amos Publishing operated Corvette Enthusiast, Mopar Enthusiast and Ford Enthusiast. They merged these three mags together to form Auto Enthusiast to try and try all the different groups together and broaden their coverage on all facites of the hobby. They really wanted to do more "epic driving storys" to show that cars are to be driven.......and that is where I came in.

Auto Enthusiast poured most of there trip budget into our epic road trip, more then several combined, so I really want this to be worth our efferts. So pick up some copies and show some love! :D

Thanks for the magazine history, that sort explains why it is Vol. 55 Issue 12, wonder what the original ***le was 55 years ago? I never would have picked up the copy if there was a 1970's Chevy on the cover. That head on shot in your avitar is fantastic, that car just has the "Look". Bob

No idea what it was back then. I applaud their approach of wanting to cater
to the m***es, the "honest to goodness" car guys like us that aren't afraid to drive our cars

Yeah, that shot is one of my faves....

Wanna know something funny? That cover caught my eye last night in the grocery store and as I started flipping through the pages I thought to myself "Bet this guy is a HAMBer". sure as ****, there you were with the HAMB hat on. Great story, awesome car. Congratulations on the ink.

We definitely will make the trek again and swing by your pit to visit, not sure about 2013 however.

This years "adventure" was a major undertaking...and will take us some time to recover. There are also some corrections and additions I need to make to the Roadster before making this trip again.....and the "Special" still needs a new crank. I would say look for a "Bonneville or Bust Part 2" thread in the next 2 or 3 years.

Clayton, not to take away from the discussion, but how's the maniac doing with his rebuild?

Your not taking away from this by any means...after all this was a major part of this trip.

The rebuild is currently on hold while we are waiting on a new crank (a good "EE" series). Chris has located one and will have it machined specific, we are just waiting on time and some extra play money. Once he gets me a crank....the "special" is back in business!

Also in the midst of a MAJOR shop re-orginization and restoration.....something that is 35 years over due and has really become our priority. Might actually start a thread on that.

noboD, I am still here, I took a new job just before our trip to Bonneville. I took a significant pay cut but will better off pay wise in a a year or too. I found a new crankshaft just haven't had the extra funds for it.

  16. [IMG] you said she looked kind of sad at the end of your trip. I think she's just winking at you and saying"That was fun! Lets clean up and do it some more!":D

How have I missed this?!?! So cool on so many levels:

    1. CAR - The T is awesome.

    2. TRIP - The road tip is epic.

    3. STORY - The write-up is perfect. (Right numbers on pictures, commentary and updates.)

    4. HAMB - THis is the stuff that make the HAMB great. (I was starting to wane on the place a little)

    5. INSPIRATION - I was contemplating a trailer - screw it.

    6. GUY - You just get it.

    Thanks a million!

Thanks Bonsey! That really means allot! It really was the trip of a lifetime...and I'm glad I had my friends along to make this trip with. It was a very personal trip for me ( following in my Grandfather's footsteps) and I am glad the T made it and I was able to share it with the HAMB. The only thing I regret....it that the Special didn't make it.

Well when we get the crank someday we'll try it again. I had an absolute ball and met a lot of awesome people from around the world.

Chris, Stop being so modest . . . You know that a lot of your fun was due to the team of Clayton and yourself ! Just wish I could have been a small part of your abortive fun . . . Model T's Rule ! Hope that I can some day build my "Heinz '57 Special" . . . I would be on your tail on the way to the Salt !

    Dave and Cindy
We love you and your family . . . !

  23. Watching the build and then the trip was a treat and a trip like that is only a dream for some . Somewhere up in the heavens are two guys that you have made very happy and proud , I tip my hat to the love and respect you fellows have shown them.

Here here! I agree completely....even though we lost the Special...WE made it together. - would not have made it alone without my teammates.

I sure hope so Dave....would be nice to have all three of our T's on thne road together...with a whole convoy of other H.A.M.B.ers behind us.

Thank you kindly Rob! This was really a "journey" for both of us and the trip of a lifetime. I was never old enough to really get into hot rodding before grandpa p***ed away...so this was my way of connecting and following in his footsteps.

For both Chris and I, Bill was our mentor and a great father to Chris....and a second father to me. It was only fitting that we dedicate this trip to him too. After all....if it wasn't for him....this would never have happened.

Clayton and Chris, It would sure be cool to have three "T" themed rides all in a line on the way to some place to cruise. I get excited when I think about my "Heinz '57 Special" purring down a highway in the desert. Would be one way to have a way cool cruise.

My first time reading this too... I 'discovered' Clayton's T on Instagram within the past few months, and actually watched his Jay Leno episode yesterday. The car looks like a blast, and remembering this road trip will make me think before complaining about taking my truck somewhere...;)
