I have a 53 Flathead, stock. I love the look of the 3 carbs. If the motor is stock how can you run 3, wont it flood the motor with to much fuel. Right now I have a 97 large logo stroemburg. I was just wondering if I ran 3, which carbs would I run? would they be all 94's, or being stock am I just wasting my time and money. I apprieciate any help here. And also which intake do you fello HAMBERS reccommend for a flathead. Edelbrock, Narvarro,Offenhauser,Edmunds. Which is the best or should I say works best. Thanks Jeff

If your motor is stock, you could run a 3 deuce intake but put block off plates under the two outer carbs using only the center carb. This gets you the kool look of the 3x2 intake with the drivability of a stock intake. Just my $.02. CTJ

Are you happy with your single 97 right now? If so, find a couple of other cores and mount them in the end spots of a 3X2 manifold. For a street motor and this set up, it doesn't really matter what brand you use. Search around and find a good used one for a good price.

Here's a not so good pic of my set up in my '36 p/u. I put a Southwind plate under the center carb to be a vacuum source for the advance that I plan on adding to the Bubba Chevy distributor. It is a 1/4" thick. To match that height on the front and rear, I made some solid phenolic block off plates. Inside the fuel inlet fittings on the end carbs, I tapped them for 10/32 as I recall (don't hold me to that) and installed block off set screws. As you can see, I have not finished off the deception with the linkage.

The center carb on mine is actually a 48 that I have re-jetted and power valved to a bit leaner than a stock 97 as per Uncle Max's recommendations. My plugs are now nice and tan with my mileage greatly improved. She runs great. Hope this info helps.

As others have stated, you can run three carbs with 2 block off plates or just maybe...
you could run 3 carbs with 1 block off plate ;)

If you're running a 97 you must have addressed the problem of the load-a-matic distributor on the 53 and it's need for venturi vacuum.

Three 97's, 94's or even 48's will work with progressive linkage. Or do as the guys suggested above. The cfm of three is about the same as running one 390 cfm 4-bbl.

For me,my flathead runs best on one carb.. I took off my Edlebrock 2 carb intake that I could never get dialed in and bolted a stock intake on with this slingshot.. carb closest to the body is blocked off so I have the 2 carb look with the reliabilty of 1 carb with my basically stock flatty.. $0.02.

I just purchased rebuild kits for 2 - 94's (to go on my Edelbrock Slingshot) from Keith Lee at Jitney Auto Parts - a well-known flathead expert. He included 2 - 4.5 power valves to replace the 5.0's in the rebuild kits, thus lowering the fuel requirement for each carb.

A stock flatmotor will handle 2x2,....so you can also block off the center carb, and run the outer ones. Just a different suggestion.........
