I found this tail light at a swap in Morris, the day after the Pile-Up (awesome) and was wondering if anybody had any ideas what it came on originally. I found a patent that lists it as an "ornamental design for a vehicle lamp" from 1941. http://www.google.com/patents?id=HT...gbs_selected_pages&cad=2#v=onepage&q=&f=false Is this an aftermarket light? It does have SEMA APPROVED cast into the gl***, Wikipedia has SEMA starting in 1963 so logically it was made later than that. The patent number is D124618 and it has K-D 517 stamped into the top of the housing as well as cast into the gl***. Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking it may be a cab light for a truck but the red gl*** is throwing me because I can only remember seeing amber on cab lights.
Ya, just an accessory item. The lenses comes in all kind of colors. We used to just call them Cab Lights. The Wizzard
Thanks fellas, I'm planning on using it for tail/brake light on my Triumph bobber. Hey Glen, thanks for helping put on the pileup. It was my first time down and I had a blast I think I'm going to drive my '51 ford down next year if the old Flatty will carry it that far!
If ya liked the Pileup, then give the Rust Revival at try at the end of May. I think you'll be impressed. www.RustRevival.com
I just took 4 of these cab lights off of my 1939 Chevy COE tow truck. One still has good chrome/stainless. I think one red lenses is also good. Call me @ 541-659-8891... Darrell
The K-D 517 dates back to the early '40's when cab clearance lights came into common usage. That cover style is an early version, if the lens has a SEMA marking ,it is a later replacement. Good chrome is hard to find, good rubber pads are non-existant, unless someone knows of re-pops,,,I'll take two...
Got to love when someone brings up a three year old thread to use as an ad instead of posting in the cl***ified. Red marker lights were normally used facing the rear on trucks and still are.
If you plan on making a single wire light as tail lights, what will you do for a brake light? Changing pigtails won't work. Bobble light bulbs won't fit in a single light socket...
This is the first "what is it" thread that when I opened it I knew what it was..I know that's not saying much.hahaha
Good for you E.E. Turned one of those into a rear light for my daughter's bike, 9volt battery in the tail, switch on top, bulb in the right place. Made a gasket outa a free beer cozy.
