I know it seems like a dumb question, but the only thing i have found is home depot ,lowes and fastenenal...i refuse to pay 2.00 per bolt...i know it sounds silly but when replaceing all in a car project or new build it adds up...abbaba bolt sells by the box...when i was in nor-cal and Minnesota places like tractor supply and fleetfarm even the local truevalue sold grade 5 and 8 by the pound...when i ask if there is a place like that here people look at me like im crazy!

Is there a hobbist friendly bolt vendor in the area?...any leads are appreciated

If you can wait till the big 3 swap meet in February at Qualcomm stadium there is a guy out of east county who sells them by the pound. He can even set you up with a starter kit with trays etc... I tore through my business card collection but I must have trashed it. I was close to buying a bunch of bolts, nuts etc from him but bought tires instead...

i would'nt bolt my licence plates on with hardware from the home depot or lowes. i think they scearch the world to find the ****piest bolts to sell. i cant imagine a big city like that not having a proper bolt house. are you looking for a business opportunity?

  6. Not in San Diego county but Mcmaster Carr, order online in bulk and it'll get to you in about 2 days.

also have tons of other random fasteners.
    You will be amazed.

Marshall's off Miramar Rd......12pts, low head cap screws, ****on heads, stainless, etc etc.....you don't have to buy the whole box. You will be amazed walking around.
Lots of other top end hardware, tools, adhesives, lubricants, etc.

    Yeah marshall's is good too.
Especially for random stuff like circlips, bushings etc.
I never knew there were so many types of bench grinding wheels!
They do charge for their selection though.

Hey Ed, the website says $100 min. order. Do you know if that is for walk-ins as well?

Much appreciated info guys, i knew there had to be a few places around....in a place where almost every home has a hotrod, racecar, dunebuggy, or some kind of rv i was surprised not to find more places for fasteners.....i guess there are some advantages to being in a farming community....so-cal is missing out not having a man-mall like fleetfarm :)

Keep the suggestions rolling for the sandiego newbies!

This is THE place for hardware. It's like a candy store in there and every time I go in, I find something new I never knew they had or that I needed. :)

Look for a good old fashioned hardware store or older type automotive store. They should have nuts and bolts by the pound.

Definately Marshall's Hardware for anything and everything you need. K surplus is great too. I skip Fastenal for the most part, they don't usually stock what I am looking for. They can get it but don't have it. Marshalls always has it..

This place is definitely the best bang for the buck and worth the drive fron north county. Make a list of what you need first. I bought a small bin system from HF and I stock it with the common sizes from 1/4" - 1/2" NC and NF. It's nice not having to scrounge through the coffee cans trying to get bolts that match.

One company that makes high quality hardware in the U.S.A. is ...

    http://www.arp-bolts.com/

Check their web site; it lists dealers all around the country.
There are a number around San Diego.

  27. I've used Ababa Bolt, Mc Faddendale (both previously mentioned) when I lived in North Sandy Eggo (Escondido). Neither one ever let me down, they always had what I needed.

There's a small owner run place in Escondido on Washington just east of escondido blvd, been there a long time, I tend to buy in bulk at ababa but the other place is good if you just need a small quan***y. I think it's called E and L hardware or maybe E and L supply.

  29. Oh, yeah, thanks, Justin, forgot about that one....it's right next door to Collateraloan (The Pawn Shop)or at least it was before I moved North 7 years ago...

    Yep, E&L Supply...

  30. Ha, there's a mcfadden dale down there too?, now I know where to go if I break down in Escondido.
