I relisted that '50 Ford woodie I got last fall to flip, tonight - pretty sure no one here wanted it, been in the cl***ified at least three times and not even a silly offer on it. I cut the price in half because gas is so crazy and made the stipulation that 10% of whatever it sells for goes to the Red Cross. One sold last month that I saw in person, that was in a little bit worse shape, for about the same price.. so it aught to go this time. But tonight I get one ***hole who writes and asks "Sorry to see your car was hit by the hurricane. Do you have any pictures before the storm damage?" Every time I've listed the thing I get a couple of ***holes sending notes either confirming their grasp of the obvious (notes that amount to "your car is a piece of ****") or just plain being stupid. Some of them play the game where they think that if they can convince you your car is garbage you will part it out.. then they bid on the two bits they need off it. They don't fool me. This one just takes the cake... I guess it just galls me a little that even when I barely have two nickels to rub together and I figure I will still try and help out a little, some ***hole has to make a joke out of it. That's one guy who could use a good swift kick in the ***. Or to get dropped off in the center of New Orleans for a visit. As for the car, I searched closed auctions about every second month to verify selling prices on cars and their parts. There's a good $3500 of parts on it parted out (but I'm not about to help these clowns by doing that), and you can buy one for $8000 and still have to do all the same wood and bodywork to it. So why I am still sitting on this is beyond me, but I am sick of dealing with it. About ready to fill it with tin and get my $125 or so for it. Then these ***holes will have to pay that much more for the next one.
I listed a model A...model T....project thingy on ebay a few years ago. I had a modest reserve on it (well under $1000). For the parts I listed, the reserve was more than fair. The parts weren't junk, there just wasn't much there. The project would have taken a lot of imagination, as well as fabrication skills. One ***hole emailed me and told me it was the most pathetic pile of **** he had ever seen listed on ebay. He said I should be ashamed of myself for even trying to p*** it off as a project. He said there was absolutely NO WAY anyone could make anything at all out of it. I didn't even respond. The guy was just looking for an internet fight. Plus he was just so far wrong that it was pointless to respond. I think there must be a few bored fellas out there having a good laugh. Beevis and ****head of ebay??? Nahhh, Beevis and ****head were more intelligent. Let it go.
What pisses me off are the ones that dont read the discription and ask you a question that you have already answered. Or the guys that want you to figuer out shipping for them before they bid on it WTF like I dont have anything better to do. Like I should figure out shipping for 3 differnt people each time I sell something. bret
Bret - I OFTEN ask for a shipping quote!!!!! You can BLAME your fellow Ebayers for that!!! Having once been BIT by bogus shipping costs is all it took for me to now ask EVERY TIME (unless they state it in the auction). Of course as a seller you can avoid those questions by stating package, size, weight, and YOUR zip and let us potential buyers figure it out for ourslves - OR state a fixed shipping cost. And if that's too much you can use the shipping calculator - that makes it extremely convient for your potential buyers. Of course you may think this is too much work (and maybe you're right) but at the same time your potential bidders might think the same thing and move to the next auction. Keep in mind - Ebay is FULL of idiots - both buying and selling. Trying to figure out who's who may be annoying, but you can't blame us for trying!!! Food for thought anyways.
The one I hate is when you describe the item's faults and the ***hole that get's the item starts crying even though he was well aware of any defects, then won't accept a full refund. He wants to keep the item, even though it's complete junk and useless to him, and just wants most of his money back. Good luck on your auction, nice to see someone trying to help others.
I went through almost the same B.S. a month or so ago when I tried to sell my '66 coupe deville parts car. All over in the description I mentioned parts that were missing or damaged, and that I didn't want to part the car, that I wanted to unload the thing as a whole. Not one stinkin' bid, but a whole bunch of questions "if the car doesn't sell and you part it I would buy this" one jerk even told me "I'll give you X dollars for the front fenders" EXCUSE ME, BUT IT'S MY MERCHANDISE, I WILL PRICE IT THANKS. The best one though was the guy who asked "If I use the buy it now, can I come take the parts I want, and leave the rest behind?" HELL YEAH! I'll crush the carc*** and make MORE. But, I am still going to follow ebay rules etc, to cover my ****. He wanted to come "see" the car. I told him place a bid first. anyways, I got the feeling he wanted to case the car, then come back when nobody was around. Glad I pissed him off. Needless to say, I still have the car.
Damn right dip****!!! So all you no-good knuckle draggin, mouth-breathin', *** scratchin' then finger sniffing, cousin humpin' *******s can go piss up a tree!!! Hey, you're right... computer + anonymity DO= ***hole Of course you all know I'm fooling. The Ebay thing is like the joker who calls about the car you're selling for $1,200 and offers you $300 without even seeing it. When that happens I just laugh maniacally until they hang up. I guess the equation above works for phones too.
This makes me an ***hole I'm sure but if you're willing to haul it to the s**** for a buck and a quarter why don't you sell it to a HAMBer for that price. One of these guys that also don't have 2 nickles to rub together with 2 stipulations: #1 that they make a donation to the Cross of whatever set amount in your name. #2 that they build it and not s****e or part it out for profit. Granted you don't make any cash on it, but your rereason for selling is to help the storm victims out right?
dude, what the hell are you talking about. why is the guy an ***hole for saying "sorry about your car being messed up, do you have any before pictures" what is wrong with that? i'm just confused and i want to hear your side of the story as i'm an frequent ebayer.
this happened to me and gave me the only negative feedback out of 165 feedbacks. ****ing ***hole!!!! ebay is definitely not a perfect system.
I'll tell ya what is going on... these folks out here in the no rust zone have NO CLUE what the rest of the world thinks is a workable project. They then remark on what an outrageous price is being asked on such a "rusty piece of ****" etc. They are very spoiled.
This is not a slam on rustynewyorker or anyone else from back east so don't take it the wrong way but: Perhaps its just that like a lot of us who have been around for a day or so do know what it takes to build a rust bucket and know that they can buy one in better shape somewhere else for about the same price and have it shipped cheaper than to do the rust bucket route. Personally I don't see the need to slam what someone is selling unless the seller needs a good thrashing. If I don't like it I usually just p*** on it and leave it at that. But some folks feel a lot taller when they can bad mouth someone elses chit.
I hear what your saying I have been bit myself on shipping scamers. I allways give a price in the dicription or state that the buyer will pay exact shipping. To me that is what the shipping is exactly but then these people dont know me so I hear what your saying. I pride myself in not cheating any one but like I said they done know me. bret
I don't sell much on there, but the last few things I've sold have been at a fixed shipping cost. I figured size, weight, etc., plus packaging. I have my **** packed for me, 10-15 bucks, and insurance is $1 per $100 value, first 100 free. Then I plugged in the ZIP code of the next town over, then the zip for Seattle which I figure would cost about as much as to ship anywhere in the lower 48. The price was within a few dollars. If it was a vast difference I wouldn't charge a flat rate though.
I actually make a living selling hot rods and the likes on ebay and have sold over 400 cars in the last 3 yrs on ebay. I have had all sorts of crazy offers and scams offered etc. I do know when i look to buy a car on ebay and i do nearly every month i look at shipping very closely for example if i bid on your car in new york area i consider that to be not so many miles awway. rather 1400 dollars away so i can only bid a set amount where a new yorker can bid me over by that much ,,,, It doesn't make it alright to cut down ones sale item but some just don't know how to play well with others............also as a hot rod builder I have many customeres that look at my price to repair as opposed to starting with a better piece at a like price. good luck on your deal and I salute you for the offer to red cross that is great,
i appreciate the fact that you're willing to give 10% to the ARC... but come on, this line i quoted? people are dying every minute, mamas can't find their babies, pets are floating in the streets dead...lenny bruce once said, 'comedy is tragedy with time'... it's too soon. nic
3?? more like 50.i always list in my auctions that i don't have time to figure out shipping for 40 different people who are THINKING about bidding on my ****. i always tellt hem that i will NOT charge them any more than what the post office charges me. and it never fails that you get some jack*** (or several) that STILL asks you what shipping will cost to his zip code. the last time i sold stuff i took the first bit of money i made off the auctions and bought a good scale. from now on i will weigh the stuff and list the weight in the auction. thats the most i can do. people who don't read the entire auction and then ask stupid questions should have their internet priveleges revoked.
