Guys, been building a "one off" for quite a while now, and finally getting to the finishing touches. I am looking for some 1.5" or 1.75" stainless steel tubing to make the exhaust. I have been trying to do it with handicap handrails from bathrooms, but it is too thin. When I am welding it, it seems to be difficult to get it polished out without going through the pipe. Also filling small imperfections turns into filling a large hole in the pipe. I am learning how to weld stainless, and it isn't easy, but I think my downfall is from the thin material I have to work with. The clincher is that I also need madrel bent 90 degree elbows, smaller radius' preferred. Anyone know a good source for any of this?

I have googled, Yahoo'ed and Bing'ed until my fingers bled out, or I would not have brought it before you. I even checked McMaster Carr...I am not a noob here.

Interesting. It took me about 30 seconds. Everything you asked for seems to be available in the Jegs link I posted.

I work at Jegs, they do not offer Stainless in 1.5 or 1.75...they start at 2 inch and go up.

I stand corrected, it must have been recently added to our inventory, been watching it close, but not close enough. Thank you.

I always use SS Dairy tubing and elbow's, 16 guage. You can get it in several different sizes, are there any dairy supply outlets in your neck of the woods?

Try Stainless Works in Ohio and ask for 16 ga. tubing. Also in south Michigan google
Wolfes aircraft supply, good stuff and they're reasonable.

37RAT, I found a place that sells fluid tubing for those kind of bulk tanks, and I asked what they had, and he said they start at 2 inch and go up, I had not found a true dairy supplier yet. Kan't spell, I had not found them, I will add them to my source list, thanks. Saucerhead, I will now that I know about them, we just started carrying them at work, and they must have added the smaller stuff very recently. We are working to expand the website, and new stuff is on there every day... I guess I gave up and asked for help too soon. And to the others, thanks for the help, I had been watching the Hooker products, the small diameter stuff had to have been added within the last few days! I will call Stainless works direct to see if I can source some straight pieces.

If you want to keep it local, go to Tubular Techniques in Hilliard. They have what you need (614) 529-4130

I don't know about your area but we have at least one scrap dealer in this area that sets aside some of the nicer stainless scraps he picks up from fab shops in his scrap bins and sells it by the lb. Sometimes the fab shops will sell remnants for a reasonable price too if there is one in the area that will sell them or sells metal along with what they fabricate.
I used to do the maintenance purchasing for a big apple/grape juice plant and getting stainless remnants wasn't an issue but the outfit who I sold the scrap to would resell some of it by the pound if a guy got there before they bailed it. A guy has to be resourceful and hunt around a bit.
