I'm looking for a "small diameter distributor cap" HEI distributor that uses the external HEI coil, etc. Can somebody tell me a year, and model vehicle I could source one with? This needs to be for a 90 deg V6 or inline 6 Thanks! dk
1992 Chevrolet Astro, my research says the 4.3 90 degree was the only engine available and it used the small cap remote coil HEI. The module is all electronic so how do you intend to advance your timeing with engine speed?
1982 to 1984 S-10 P/U Truck V6 2.8L. This is the distributor I am using in my GMC Jimmy 302... Works great with a little machine work to the housing....
Tom at http://stoveboltengineco.com/ takes the S10 Dist. & modifies it to sit lower for the inline. Just bought one from him Friday.
2 cents You could use (bolt in) pertronix the original distro (replace points) but keep old look. I am playing with this idea myself but I am a noob. http://www.pertronix.com/
I appreciate the info! Candy-man, is it true what icsamerica says about the advance?? Now, I don't mean to offend or buck the rules, but I didn't know a better place to ask the question than here on the HAMB..... If this isn't allowed, please tell me and it won't happen again. Perhaps it's allowed as a 'tech' topic.....as in 'shop and tools', machine tools, etc. After all, forklifts are an essential tool in a lot of shops. I want one of these to put in a Slant 6. The engine is in a forklift. (It is a 1970.....so it's at least period correct...lol) I need the small cap due to close clearance with the oil filter. The stock look is irrelevant in this case, as it's all about reliability. I want the hottest spark possible because propane can be cantankerous. I also did this 10 years ago with a 1953 Chrysler flat 6 in another forklift. I was able to use the large cap unit in that one. It has performed flawlessly for over 10 years. 59Apachegail, Yes, the Pertronics is a possibility, but I would want the Ignitor III. The module may not fit in my 6 cylinder dizzy tho..... dk
