Have a phaeton with a tan cloth top. Car has been in storage for a long time before I got it. Top is not stained but is dusty and dirty. There are some black lines where the top bows are. Think they are ground in dirt from a car cover. Can I clean this myself or should I take to a pro?? What product should I use to clean it??
Here is how I have cleaned stained vert tops at in a dealership detail shop, Vacuum it with the brush atachment to remove the loosest of the dirt from the fabric. Around here there are a couple of places that sell dealer supplies, and detailing shop supplies. See if you can find one and ask them for one of their foaming interior cleaner. In an incon****uous small spot, use the cleaner, a medium stiff brush, and a wet vac. Spray an area let it sit for a while, then agitate what is left of the foam, and **** it up with the wet vac. If this works continue to do small areas over the entire surface. Where the lines are may take a couple of applications.
I've had good results with the vacuum brush and then using Scotchguard carpet shampoo with a fine brush. Gently scrub with the brush, let dry, then vacuum again.
Meguiar's sells some sort of spray cleaner made specifically for cleaning Haartz fabric. My buddy bought some from their display in Columbus and said it works fantastic. They also sell a spray to put on afterwards that makes water repel off the fabric like it does when its brand new. I'd check their website. Personally, I use a shop vac on mine, and a lint roller... you'd be amazed how much dirt a cheapo "sticky paper" lint roller pulls off the fabric.
I recommend starting with a good hosing down, and spot clean with the whole top wet. Most any mild detergent will be OK. Wetting it in spots can leave rings if any dirt at all is embedded in the fabric.
Hello all, I just wanted to share with everyone that I have found a very inexpensive way to clean almost anything. I use shaving cream. I use the Barbasol brand. Other brands will also work. You can get it for about a dollar a can and it really cleans nice. Just spray it on, work it in with a soft brush or your hand - then take a damp cloth and wipe it clean. This really works great on carpet stains. Hope this helps
I use "RaggTop". It cleans and has a protectant that works great and looks great when done. It's also recommended by Hartz.
Not cleaned a Hartz top. But Folex carpet cleaner will clean cloth great. I used it to clean red cake color and old coffee stains on the daughters carpet. Spray a little on and rub it with a terry cloth. Done. Stuff is cheap at Lowes by the quart are a gallon. Can be used in carpet cleaner mechines also. Cleans the car carpet and cloth seats also.
