My condolences. It suck that we only get one dad. And only for a limited period of time. The Harley will allow your dad to be with you for a lot longer. My dad plastered houses for a living. I can drive around here and see his work. Despite the fact he is gone 12 years he is still around. Somebody a lot wiser than me once said, "Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened."

  2. Thanks guys

We will be headed to church this morning .
Its going to be extra hard on my mom because that's going to be the very spot they got married 47 years ago. They really had that once in a lifetime love for each other.

Perhaps it is fitting that your dad should pass away at a time of the year when they are showing "It's A Wonderful Life". Great story your dad would love I am sure.

Condolences to you, your family and friends.

  11. Sympathy, prayers and a Salute to your Dad as he has a great son to pay such tribute to him. I lost my dad in 73, I was 18, he died on his 50th birthday in my arms as I tried to keep his heart going. He too was a WW II Veteran...............it is not easy to deal with even today. I share with you your sad but proud moments. God Bless.

I'm sorry for your loss. Treasure his memories and remember him in your prayers. I have my uncle's flag, (WWII Air Corp combat Veteran) and on Memorial Day I have it flown over the Town Police Station.

It is hard losing your dad...I lost mine in '07... also a vet (wounded twice in Korea in the same fight)..was a lifelong gearhead, but was a frugal family man and never really spent much on his projects, or if he did, he would do them over a long time... not a day goes by that i don't have a pleasant thought about him... hope it is the same for you...
    Bless you and your family...

I know how you feel about having the US Army play taps at a Dad's service. You never forget it. It's a sad moment but also so proud of him when they play it, an ultimate tribute and sign of respect. We're lucky to have had them, some people never knew their Dad, never knew what it was like. Hang in there.

  18. Sorry for your loss. Sounds like a great man. I can tell you will always have good things to say about him.

Sorry for your loss. I will be praying for you and your family. I have no idea what I will do when my Dad passes away as we are as close as brothers at this point in my life. Rod

Sorry for your family's loss. I heard Taps played for my Dad in 1970 when I was sixteen 42 years ago. There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't think about him and the influence he made in my life. God gave us memories to help us cope with the loss of a loved one.

    Sorry for your loss.

You know, there is a way for you to fulfill his wishes. I had a friend that swore he would be buried with his Harley and when he died he was cremated and his wife had his ashes put in the fuel tank of his bike and buried him that way. Later she replaced the fuel tank with a new one and continued to ride his bike in his honor.

When my step-father died they played "echo taps" at his service with the 21 gun salute. I still tear up remembering the haunting sound of those two buglers echoing each other.
