So after reading this board for a while, I get the feeling that I should probably post an intro. Here goes. I'm 19, originally from florida, I was born there but only lived there for 6 months. My parents then carted us off to Santa Cruz, CA. I lived there for about 8 years. That time is when I got a lot of my interest in old tin. My dad always had old trucks in various states of repair, in fact, I did my first driving in a late thirties ford pickup. Eventually my mom and I moved to Minnesota, my dad followed a year later to be around me, as my parents had split up some years earlier. I lost most of my interest in cars around this time, but occasionally got all hot and bothered by various muscle at car shows. Fast forward to a couple years ago, I started to get really into cars again, this time newer pushrod V8 stuff, like F-bodies and 5.0s. I never had a car to work on but I couldn't stop reading and learning as much as I could. I started to get back into cl***ics, but not muscle anymore, I wanted a cruiser. That turned into a hunt for a suitable car, I looked for anything decent, and I almost bought an '64 impala. I turned out that my dad had a friend with a '64 Caddilac Fleetwood for sale. I looked at it and bought it shortly after. The caddy with new shoes. It needed some work, the water pump leaked pretty bad and I ran kinda shakey, but I got all of that worked out and had it driving shortly. Then I had all sorts of problems with stalling, I had a bad fuel pump and a messed up choke it turns out, so I changed the carb, lines, and pump and had no more problems except a busted exhaust gasket. A quick saturday morning, pre-cruise paintjob. I drove it like this for a while, until I broke the motor by pushing it too hard, like any idiot kid will. I heard clanking, drove it a couple blocks home, determined that the sound came from around the heads, and pulled them off. Here is what we found. Yep, so the block was cracked. The caddy is getting a new 500ci caddy motor making around 550hp in early spring, and I'm working 65hr weeks just to pay for it. I'm glad it happened, it got me off of my *** and actually doing what I wanted originally, making it fast. So thats were I'm at now, I'm getting all sorts of help from some great people, ***us has been awesome with answering all of my stupid questions. Stevie D on the board, as well as my friends Dylan and Eric who are on the board too, helped pull the old motor and trans and are awesome guys. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere if it wasn't for friends. Wow, that was long but I thought that I may as well be thorough. Congrats if you got all the way through.
