Can I put a 1950 flathead on a regular engine stand

Just getting to the shop today and I've seen where people say not to but is that just for ones with cast in bell housings?

 

You should be able to. It depends if you have to take the flywheel off to make clearnce. You just gotta try.

 

I did, never felt that confident with it though. So once I installed the oil pan I used a 4x4 in the front for added support.

 

Some guys make a mount that fits into the engine stand, and bolts to the exhaust ports. It allows you to have the engine sit both vertically, and horizontally.

Seems to be the best idea.

 

I've never had a problem with an 8-BA style flathead on an engine stand.

Yes you can. The flange on the back where the bellhousing bolts is quite thick.

Yea thanks. Mines just a short block so a lot of the weight is not there.
