If you can find a Saginaw 605 (power) steering box, it is about 2" shorter than the 700 series you are using. May be enough to clear the front sheet metal.

I love the old Buick's. Our family has had a '41 since new along with a '32 Chevy that is also a life long garage mate. Those Buick's had a ride like a magic carpet to me.

Wow, that's a beautiful car Normbc9. Looks brand new! Sadly, I'll never know the original ride feel since I've swapped in something from '86.

Ray, thanks for the tip of the shorter steering box, we'll search for one of those.

Ray, got a saginaw 605 and it fits perfect to pitman arm and input shaft and frame. But, a good 1.5" shorter where I needed it. Thanks for the tip!

New wheels and tires. '55 Buick wheels, gloss black. Car is practically done now :)

Still have some clearance inside the fender.

Stance is pretty much what I wanted. What do you think?

Coming along nicely. As to what I think...I think that with Lonnie building the car and your daughter scraping mouse poop, you've got it easy!...lol.

Body was (carefully) blasted and only a few spots that'll need patching. Bottom of the windshield pinholed pretty good. Going to get the rest of the body parts in the booth and then black primer.

I ordered those from Diamond Back tires. They're special size 700R15 for pre-48 luxury cars, page 20 in their latest catalog. I ordered them as smoothies rather then going with whitewalls. Just was thinking the all black look may work with the theme of car I'm building. Not sure. Might regret that decision.

If I recall, the tires are light-truck tires from yokohamo or toyo (can't remember which). Diamond back advertises them as 700R15, but they're a modern 15 size. If you need to know the exact size, I can get that info later (not at the shop at the moment).

But they look good in person; I like 'em.

Sand blasted frame and applied Rust-Oleum black, just in time for Oregon's rainy season.

The floor and rockers Lonnie redid turned out real nice. Stronger than stock now.

Kind hard to see the subframe in this shot:

Fitting rear fenders. It's going to be a challenge to weld these to the body and get all the contours to flow right. The original fender welting hide a lot of mismatch between the body and the fender.

I'm looking for a set of fender skirts ('41). It would be nice to have the skirts handy to make sure they fit clean when the fenders are being welded on. Anyone have a lead on a set of 50-series '41 fender skirts?

Going to have to raise the fender up 1/4" or so along the top to match body contour. The front and rear of fender match up better to the body. It's just this middle section that's problematic. You can kind of see the drop down in this picture:

I found '41 skirts locally on Craigslist for $100 a pair, very good shape. I was about to pay $500+ for a pair on Ebay. Sometimes you get lucky!

  28. 39 and 40 Bucks are my favorite heavy car.
I love the roof lines and steering wheels on these cars the most.
I had a 40 Pontiac as a teenager and someday hope to step up to a Buick of that era.

Lot of updates. Body and doors and front fenders back on frame. Love it! Motor/trans in. Steering column back in. Brake peddle assembly from late model ranger pickup installed.

These shots are with the motor/trans in, so the front end is going to need to come down. I've got 2" dropped spindles and we may have to cut the springs a bit to get the front end down where it wants to be. That's as low as the rear end will go without c-notch, but I'm happy with the rear end height. Just need to get that front end down.
