strange thing

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 1oldschool1, Dec 10, 2012.

  1. Weirdest thing I just realized. I have a stronger drive to work on the ford when its below freezing than when it is warm outside. w.t.h.??? and often times I will. Lay on the cold concrete, can't see anything because my breath is clouding up the situation. so I hold my breath, or think of creative ways to exhale. oh well. keep on roddin!

  2. cold concrete? i'm too old for that , i have heat in my garage. right now i'm working on a 283 and it's 60 degrees

You live in Wisconsin,so that's probably a good thing.
Other than that,no surprises. If you were normal, you wouldn't be here

I'm guessing weed, booze or bath salts. Or maybe just naturally high on FORDs.

  5. Must be because when it's warm out you have too many other things to do....No time left to work on the Ford.

I too feel that way, I am more bored in the winter, more time home, dark early, makes days feel long, and I still seem to get nothing done until my early spring thrash to make the first weekend of May show every year.

If it don't kill you, it makes you stronger. . .although I don't ride sled anymore when it gets more than -10.

  8. Probably because the weather isn't useful for anything else so you might as well work and get something done and save the good days for cruising. No sense wasting pretty weather.

Same here. Low 30's today. Went out & cleaned carb (rusty tank), checked timing, & fixed stripped door handle. Didn't have to lay on cold concrete, though. I hate cold!

How old are ya, 1old? When I was young, I'd work in the cold too. Had a good pair of overalls and remember falling asleep laying under the car...in the snow...lol. But I wasn't even 20yrs old yet.

Ha ! Move to Florida and you will pray for cool weather. We get more done in the Wintertime than in July or August, when it is 95 in the shop and 90% humidity.

Jesus you poor bastards. I laid on concrete through New York winters so long my kidneys still hurt. My wife thinks I moved to So. Cal. to be with her but lets just say that even here I have a heater in my garage for those miserable 55 degree nights in February.
    Stay warm fellas.

Thats what makes the drive to work more memorable. You're going to remember the morning when its 20 degrees out, you have to warm the car up for 20 minutes before you can leave. My friends think im nuts for driving my truck everyday to school without heat or air.

A couple 4' a 6' carpet scraps or a bit smaller are great for getting under the car...

  15. I've been house bound for the past five weeks, I was so happy to go out to the shop and smell the grease that I don't care what the temperature is.

It got all the way up to 40 here today and I didn't get much done outside. With no heated or air conditioned shop to work in my enthusiasm sometimes isn't up to what it should be for working out in extreme heat or in the cold. Come hell or high water I have to work on my 71 tomorrow to be able to drive it to work on Wednesday.

I will say that if you are working under a car on a cold floor without a lot of heat in the shop one of those 500 watt halogen work lights will put out a lot of light under the car and throw out enough heat to make it bearable. One hung above the work bench will keep your hands and what you are working on warm enough so that you can function too and they work to thaw out a frozen pump if case needs be.

Good idea, Mr48hevy...might as well let your light provide some heat too. I think I'll fix one up over the bench.

I'd rather work in 100+ than 40 and below! I HATE the cold

  19. worked outside Sunday when that cold shit blew into Dallas and dropped it down....just hate that wind shit....actually with you on the cold below 50 degree stuff....along as the sun is shinning - I'm there.......AND THERE IS NO COLD NORTH WIND a blowin- out side is fine....

and the carpet works for me....never liked those roller things....

  20. I haven't been able to get myself out in the garage for a good week...sinus infection and cold weather...7 degrees this morning.
I bought a whippy new chrome oil pan I wanna install really soon. Got a great propane heater in the garage but I have to work tomorrow 'till 6, then work 'till 10 at the body shop on the 34s body...
Maybe wednesday I'll get to the oil pan job. No big hurry for a semi retired guy. I got all winter.

  21. I start with a shot of Ford. Pass on the weed. My glaucoma is getting better. Just a little shine was pulled from the quart. (this is the real shine here. straight from the Tennessee hills) :)
