So I got two kids both boys 4 & 2 so got a long time till they drive but I take them to car shows and they try to help work on the shoebox and they like it. It's funny we'll be driving and hill see a old car like a bug or a low rider car and hill be like daddy look hot rod everything old to him is a hot rod it's funny. So my 1st car was a 65 mustang and I loved it only old car at high Skool( mind you am just 25 yrs old )so I missed the cool yrs like most of u guys. So want to get my kids old cars for high Skool my oldes is getting a 52 f1 and I show him pics and he loves it so planing on a 302 c4 bags on the rear. So here's the question does any one hav the same plan for there kids or older guys already did this for there kids. Thanks
your thread is not very easy to follow, Get your kids into cars, it will give them something to stay occupied in the 13-18 year range when a lot of kids get into trouble, it will help you form and keep a bond with them when they hit teenage years and there may be nothing else you can talk about, you can always talk cars. '52 F1 would be a great kids car, buy it while he's young and let him take "ownership" of projects and small details along the way, teach him "if you want something nice you need to work to get it" and "good things take time and patience"
Probably a lot of Dads are like I was when my kids were young, I couldn't wait for them to get interested in cars. They couldn't even sit up yet and I bought them two electric firetrucks to drive. They had their first go kart at about 5 and a couple of minibikes right after that. They were always out in the garage, tinkering with me, and I had to go find my tools more than once, when they ran off with them to fix something. When they were about 13 or 14 we bought them their first real cars.............Don wanted a 65 Olds convertible and Dan wanted to build a Cal Look VW, so that is what we got them. By the time they were 16 their cars were almost done, and I remember Dan looking at his bug and saying "This car is going to change my life !" Today they still build cars with me in our shop, and spending time with them is the highlight of my day. Probably the best thing that happened from getting them interested in cars was that I never had a single worry about drugs or them getting into any trouble at all. I knew where all their extra money was going, where they were most nights, and it taught them a lot of responsiblility. They turned out to be two good human beings that I am very proud of, and I think cars played a big part in that. Don
I'm 16 and grandpa bought me a 55 chevy. Only old car half the kids at my high school have probably seen in person. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Don's hot rods------Good read!! My son started helping me at 10,---We built him a Father/Son project '29 hiboy his last year at hi school. I taught him my welding & fabrication skills as the time went by, & he applied them thru his car adventures---He's now 54 years old!!
Man you really have a great grandpa!!!!!!!! The 55 looks cool and what a great project to start with. The guys at your high school just may want to rethink getting a new car. Jimbo
I taught ny 11 year old daughter to drive a stickshift on my 34 Ford. That's pretty much when i learned too. Cars are a great way for families to spend time together. My dad raised my on Hot Rods and we still talk and work on them together every day. check the video clip link to see my daughter drive my 34 Ford. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phx62QKvyBQ
I have 2 sons , 2 and 3 1/2. I can not wait to get them started. I want to find out how early I can get them behind a welding helmet and start running some beads.
My almost 3 yo grandson calls the welder "fire works on the ground" he really loves anything happening in the garage. Fun to see kids experience things for the first time we don't even notice anymore.
