A well known Hot Rodder for many years in Va. and many other states p***ed away last night at age 78. WILLIE GL*** a/k/a/ Wasted Willie, Flathead Willie and quite a few other names that shouldn't be printed. With all his gruffness there was still a heart of gold inside. The man ran Altereds, rails and BSA's at area strips back in the day. He made the 200 mph club at Bonneville in his early 70's in a flathead roadster. He will be missed by his many friends.....
Thanks for THE information.............."Willie Gl***" paid, Like a hundred dollars, for A bottle (Pt.) of Whiskey, at an Estate Sale, because it had "1934 Tax Stamp " on IT, and he wanted to display IT in the front Seat of His '34 ............... I bought my 1 st '34 Ferd Phaeton from Willie............I attempted to "Bush" Him some on the selling Price, HE sez, "I'll keep the Grille, an, you can have the car for $200. Wow. I met and spoke with him just the one time and it could've happened yesterday the memory of Willie is that vivid. A very memorable guy, i regret not having known him as a fellow racer for that would have been special. Rest is Peace.
I would stop by every now and then and ask Ardun questions. What a wealth of knowledge. One of the finest collection of automobiles and cycles I ever had the chance to see, and the stories behind them. R I P my friend.
He had the best Cherry Juice on the Salt Flats!!!!!.............RIP Willie, I'll miss you and never forget you.
Yeah he was good friend of my dad. We went over his house every so often and I was always in awe over his collection. I remember looking at his flathead & Ardun collection and was blown away. He was the man, everyone knew Willie that lived in the town. Rest in peace.
Willie used to frequent the ECTA events at Maxton, NC and that is where I first met him. Willie was indeed a hoot to be around. I don't think you be in his presence for more than a few minutes without having a good laugh. It was always a joy to see that blue roadster with his portrait complete with Confederate uniform on the side, sitting in the pits, because you knew Willie was there. He was one of a kind. I kinda think he is sitting in the driver's seat of that roadster, possibly sipping some of his homemade nectar, all the while wondering how to put a flathead in the Angels' chariots.
My good old buddie Wasted Willie, it was so good to be part of your crew at Bonneville, you should be a Legend of The Salt Flats racing. R.I.P
I was a close friend of Willie's for 32 years and miss him a great deal.We spent a lot of time talking about Ardun engines and how we could get them to make more power.I had recently watercut some aluminum blanks to make some top secret rocker arms that was going to make that ardun stand tall but it was not to be.Willie R.I.P. my friend Doug Foster
